| Hi alivenwell! I don't think I'll take you up on your challenge just yet. I'm addicted, and according to my hubby, I get really mean when I try to quit. So I think I'll just continue to try cutting back. Which means I have to go buy more yarn. I can go a whole day with only 4 cigarrettes if I have yarn so that I can crochet. I know, weird.

| I gave up artificial sweetners awhile ago. I dont know if that contributes to seizures, I just did it. I use some honey in my coffee now (1-1/2 cups a day & thats the only time I used artificial sweeteners). (brushing well afterwards lol - honey can rot your teeth fast). I eat really healthy - I always have. Not any junk evvvvver (chips, candy, etc). Lots of veggies & fruit, rice bread (Im gluten-sen), chicken, turkey & fish (love it more than anything), olive oil & nuts. Thats like my entire diet lol. Its been that way forever. I do drink soy milk sometimes (Im allergic to cow's & sheep's : hives, eyelids swell, barfing, & wheezing). I see lots of ppl going gluten-free. Hmmmm. Ive been that way for years. |

I'm glad you popped over from the EFA forums. If you are inclined, I'd really appreciate you sharing your experience with the LGIT in the History Book (see sticky post for guideline). ![]()

| Man....I wish I could go on a healthier diet.....Actually, my family eats fairly healthy since we only eat out once a month. But still...with my hubby's food allergies, it makes it tricky at times.....And the thing is, he's allergic to things I really like.

My daughter is on LGIT ... the modified ketto diet, not the LGI you see dieters use. Anyway, her cholesteral is a tad high and I am using dark choc to hopefully bring the cholesteral down a bit. It is a low glycemic choc I make for her from 100% caoco. Last edited by Bernard; 03-25-2008 at 02:19 PM. Reason: swap img tag for quote tag |

| Just found these great noodles. They are shitaki tofu noodles. I typically only do soy if it fermented ... these are tofu so I assume they are fermented. The consistency is simular to ramen noodles. I cannot post a link but you go to http://www.locarbu.com/ and search for shirataki noodles. Last edited by Bernard; 05-14-2008 at 09:38 PM. | A lot of oriental foods are extremely high in sodium. I'll have to check the sodium levels in the shitaki noodles. I think tofu may also be high in sodium. Ironically, when I cut out red meat, ate tofu, yogurt and only white meat, I lost a lot of weight and felt great. I'd like to get that strict again. |

| We both have autonomic issues, orthostatic hypotension, so sodium is good for us, recommended by our cardiologists. In any case, these noodles have ZERO sodium. Strange for a soy product. I add the wheat free tamari for added sodium. |

| I still don't think that they work. It might work for some people. |

| I think they work. A healthier diet is always good for you when your body is under stress. And what is more stressful than a seizure? |

| hawke86, studies show the diets work (ie. provide at least a 50% reduction in seizure activity) for anywhere from 50-70% of participants (depending on the diet) with 30-50% of patients realizing more than 90% reduction in seizures. A low glycemic diet has definitely helped my wife.

| With those kinds of numbers Bernard, why do you think that the poll shows that 64% of those that have replied have never tried nutritional changes? |

| They don't work? Consider diets trash? I must admit I'm a bit offended by those words. The ketogenic diet sure works for my kid for 4 years now. Before, over 10 anti-epileptic drug didn't work, we had 10-100 seizures a day and a 90-99% disturbed EEG. But since we've started the ketogenic diet, we see rarely any seizures and his EEG improved to less than 30% epileptic activity. What more prove do you need? Figures? This one is about a recent trial, in fact the first randomized controlled trial on the ketogenic diet, in England. http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/574068?src=mpnews&spon=26&uac=44414DT Quote :
