Insurance Rant!

or maybe my mind is misdirected "Congress?" I've been on disability for nearly ten years due to a severe Bi-Polar condition and have been successfully stabilized throughout this period. Now, with the onset of Epilepsy I discover that my Overage for Medicade is no longer covered from my advocate agency. This medical insurance is about half of my disability earnings. There is now way I can live like this and am considering just going off Medicade Insurance - $415.00 per month. I'm in panic mode and am thinking of exploring the holistic route... vitamines, herbs...anything which will prevent me from going into Bi-Polar relapse or compromising my threashold to seizures. Fed up! Laurie

Cool Laurie, contact the EFA...

...they will at the very least know what's available to you! They don't like people getting caught up in red tape either and LOVE to expose it to stamp it out!

Do you have a regional chapter in your area?

Thanks Speber - I know EFA has a headquarter in NYC - I'm on Long Island and will look into it. Thanks to you, I understand they can direct you to low cost pharmacuticals. Always - Laurie

Yes. I have Medicare which, for example, covers 80% of hospital cost. Thank God I had active Medicade when I went into the hospital for a seizure attack with injuries. Had I not had Medicade (which is my issue now) I'd be responsible for 20% of the cost. 20% is a hell of a lot to pay out when your bill is up to the thousands. Speber gave me some good advice re:EFA which I'll look into.
Thanks for your concern. Always - Laurie

I understand your view on the politicians, however 95% of these types of decisions are made by some bureaucrat sitting behind a desk. Congress and especially not the president ever see these type of details. Just some person plugging away at faceless numbers trying to do their job.

That is the flip side of the epilesy awareness issue. Yes, we want a public that is much better informed. However, congress doesn't get involved in this type of a issue unless it becomes very visual to the public.

Social Security disability may also be an option for you, however that is very tough for E to qualify.

Yup - the CONGRESS is the one that's giving all
the ax around here; unfortunately - everyone is
suffering, not just those with Epilepsy.

While Medicare is the Federal Government, Medicaid
is covered by the State ~ however some States are
more generous with their Medicaid than others. My
own State Medicaid is facing ... well, lemme put it
this way --- "electric chair".

But I'm not alone who's griping and complaining about
it; tons of folks have Medicare/Medicaid and this isn't
fair and it's hurting us all ~ young and old.

So what the CONGRESS DOES - it usually 'echos'
back to the States who mirrors in turn what they had
done, and who hurts the most?

I don't think I need to answer that last question!

Frightengly uninformed except when it comes to presidental elections. I am on SSD but it's for a Bi-Polar I condition. Past ten years I've been stabilized...hate to have that compromised. Thanks for the mini lesson in Politics 1! Always - Laurie
