Just Have To Get It Out

Good morning AllI just have to vent.. Try not to make this long. I worked as a server for almost 3 years before I got sick and in that 3 years I missed 3 days. The other day my daughter(she works there also) and the owner got into a disagreement. (the owner has known about my ep form the start) I took a leave o f absence 2 years ago.Last year they asked if I wanted to work 2 days a week as a hostess. I said sure.( they have 2 resturaunts) My husband is the general manager at the one that my daughter and I dont work at. Anyway my daughter and the owner got into a dissageement and she told my daughter that if it wasnt for a lady they hired to take my place when I was sick I wouldnt have a job. And get this she said that I wasnt no kind of mother of wife, I was just sick. What kind of bull!#$% is that? Im not the shy type so I confonted the owners in front of my daughter and my husband. And boy did I give them I peace of my mind. I couldnt belive after almost 6 years this all came out. I informed them that I was me and not my ep. My husband wast happy with what they said and wanted to quit. He has been there 13 years and has good insurance on me so I talked him out of it. So my daughter and I quit.We gave them 2 weeks notice but they told us that we needed not to come in that they had found someone eles to come in. (crap uh?) Yesterday was my first day not to come in. I feel a little sad and mad. That I let them make me quit. Did I do the right thing?
Any advice would be good..
Sorry so long. Just had to vent.
Thank for listening and being there.

Cool That sucks Necie...I'm so sorry!...

...but I'll tell you what!--- You will find something better!

Working for people who don't give a crap about you is just a recipe for MAJOR STRESS...which (as an epileptic) you know you don't need!

Your husband probably needs out now too but is trapped due to the 'insurance thing', so give him all the support you can.

Best of luck...mean people suck...things can get better now!

Hello, Thanks for the reply. I dont have to work if I dont want to. I just did it as a favor to them and look what it got me uh? I hate rude people. I also said I would just to get out of the house. I dont really have any friends so it gave me something to do. Now I will probably go more nuts than I already am.

I hate RUDE people too, and I have certainly run into many on this recent journey. People can be so darn cruel.

Now is the time to look at the positives, and realize that it was time to move on, and make peace with your decision. I am proud of you for standing up for yourself. It was good for your daughter to see you do that.

Personally, I would have reported them to the labor board. To me, what they did and said was discriminatory and could possibly be in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. But that's just me.

Hi Skillefer,
Nice to meet you. At first I thought about reporting them. But when my seizures started and my surgerys they really were cool about it. And since my husband has worked there for 13 years it would be stupid to do something to mess that up,know what I mean? Its all good. Yesterday they wanted my kid to come in because they were short handed and she told them no And the owners that really dont ever work at the resturaunt had to go in to the other one because someone didnt show up Maybe this will make them think next time they get stupid.

This is NOT the time to withdraw even further. Look at it as an opprotunity to do something you love with your extra time. Personally I LOVE gardening. So I spend as much time as I can outside weeding, planting, digging in the dirt. However, 10 years ago I was no good at gardening but knew that if I learned I would have a great hobby. So I joined a gardening club. It only meets once a month. I learned a ton and I now I have a great hobby and a second benefit that I never dreamed of. I have a group of 40 friends who have stood by me through the long illnesses and deaths of both my parent-in-laws and now they've been a huge support to me through my daughter's recent diagnosis of Epilepsy. If you have a hobby already (scrapbooking, photography, gardening, whatever) there IS a club out there to join.

It's good to have something to look forward to that ISN'T a doctor's appointment.
