Migrains, Headaches and seizures, hate them

Darn this migraine been coming on all day. Now this migrain really hitting tonight. I have headachs everyday 24/7 cause of my keppra ( side effect). Doctor said i could come off keppra and headachs may go away but seizures get bad again. So i told him i will suffer with headachs and migrains. This hot, humid and muggy weather doesn`t help me at all. Getting maybe 3 hours sleep a night not helping much, but with humid weather and my allergys acting up, what can i do. At this point I wish life was ....

Can you ask for

a migraine med?

I know one of my friends on another forum has a strange way of dealing with headaches.......but here's a way to do it in the meantime.......can't guarantee it will work, but it's worth a try......

PEEL A LEMON IN A SINGLE STRIP. LAY THE STRIP ON YOUR FOREHEAD, THEN USING A BANDANA, OR PIECE OF FABRICE, TIE IT ONTO YOUR HEAD.

OK, I said it was different. But, she swears by it. Mr B knows who I'm talking about......on the WebMD forum......

Good luck!

Thank you. I will try anything at this point. I have got off all meds except seizure meds. We need to find out what med was interacting with my seizure meds. So he did have me on pill for migrains, but had to get off them as they might of been interacting, we could not be sure, so i had to get off it, better to be safe then sorry.

Magnesium is the only thing that has worked long term for me. It prevents them entirely.

I read somewhere that Keppra was originally used to treat migraines, before they discovered it also helped prevent seizures.

I had migraines for 30 years Wally, and that never was suggested as an option.
Early ones were Caffergot, Fiorinol, and later it was Maxalt and Imitrex. I know some lately have been using Topomax. Plus I never wanted a med that I had to take daily. When the doctor started suggesting that, I knew something else had to be found. That is when I research for a doctor that would treat it naturally and hormonally. Who would have thought that a little mineral would completely "cure" me of migraines.

Gotta agree with Robin on this one. Magnesium is my little 'miracle mineral'. I should probably take it daily, but usually only take it when I feel a headache coming or if I'm feeling tense. It always eliminates the tension in my muscles and almost always takes care of the headache.

Morgan, try taking it daily and see if you don't feel better all around. I take more when I get the "feelings" of a migraine, or if I have had wine the night before. There are more functions in the body that need magnesium, and you just might be short changing yourself, especially if you see positive results for migraine.

Hello again
yes i was given a pill for my migrains, but we had to drop me taking it as we were not sure if it were interacting with my other meds. I want to try Magnesium, were would i find that Robin? Yep i ended up have a seizure last night. I woke up at 6 am this morning and had got sick and shaky and very tired like i had not slept at all. I have no idea there coming on, but i can tell after i come to i had one. This keppra is the medicine that is giving me my headach 24/7. The doctor upped my mg about 4 months ago, cause i was having to many seizure in a month. But now the headachs cane when the mg whent up. But i will take headaches if this helps somehow in the future, i may not like the headachs but ....

I have a feeling this humid, hot weather and cool weather we been having doesn`t help either. I love winter weather. When i was a kid and teenager i loved the summer, but this humid stuff i have not been able to take for the last 10 years or more. Living in Hawaii help, no humid weather out there.

Nancy

Dr Russell Blaylock recommends this one:
http://www.jigsawhealth.com/magnesiu...magnesium.aspx

I take a private label Ionic Magnesium supplied by my doctor

Rebecca takes a chelated magnesium that I get at Whole Foods Market. She needs the added intestinal help it provides.

I'm so sorry to hear about the headaches/migraines nana! I suffer with them at least two-three times a week (In my case, I think it's the meds.). Here's a big (((HUG))).

I didn't know that about the magnesium. What dose should we take?

Someone in this thread noted imitrex as a med. for migrains. I take it, not daily, but as needed for my migrains only (not for everyday headaches). It works fairly well for me and with few side-effects. Perhaps, if the magnesium doesn't help as much as you need, you could speak with your doctor about the Imitrex.

I do hope you feel better. Lots o' love -Julie

Hi Julie - I use to take Imitrex and hated the thought that I was taking something that was so very strong. They won't give it to someone with heart issues. I also hated that I took it after the migraine reared its ugly head.

With the magnesium it keeps migraines away for me consistently (if I am good about taking the magnesium). There is no specific dose that would be prescribed, it is an individual thing. The RDA is 400 mg, but many supporters of this supplementation suggest much higher. Rebecca is taking about 1000 mg of chelated magnesium at the moment, and I take about 360-1000 mg of Ionic magnesium. There is no "toxic" dose, but your body provides you with good symptoms when it can't absorb any more.

It is known to calm the brain and act like an anti-convulsant. Rebecca's doctor told me to continue her on 1000 mg of it, since we had previously seen good results a year ago.

You might do some more research and see if it is something that you want to add to your therapy. There are some great threads on CWE discussing Magnesium.

Migraines are no longer classified in the headache catagory. Can't remember where I read that but they are in the seizure group.
I too have read about the lemon therapy, but have never tried it. Perhaps it works on "headaches" and not on migraines.

Darn i got my headachs 24/7 cause of my keppra( side effect), Doctor can not change mg on keppra or dosage either. I was on lower dosage and lower mg and higher dosag and higher mg. now i think it about in middle mg and middle dosage, keppra 1000mg twice a day. Other medsa i take are Lamictal 2000mg twice a day, zonegran 100mg twice a day. I now i will have headachs all the time, but these migrains i hate!!!1

2000 mgs /day is the middle range of your dosage on Keppra?
4000 mgs / day on Lamictal?
OUCH!
After watching my daughter on about 300-600 mg of similar medication, I feel for you.
Are you looking into any alternatives so that this might be lowered one day?

Make sure that you are not taking anything containing aspartame. Google "aspartame migraine" and you will learn that things like diet pepsi or equal can cause some real problems and can also cause seizures. Once you quit this suff , it will take sixtydays to clear your system, but it is worth tje effort. Good luck,
Julius

I didn't know it was 60 days. That is good info. I bet that is if all is working properly down there. It took about a month when my daughter stopped her meds, but I bet there was still some in her system for longer.

Good to know there is another one watching those additives here.
