Angry On the Subject of Movies...

Since the topic of movies was brought up, I remembered a movie that came out at the end of last year or two years ago..I don't remember the name... I hope I don't offend anybody. But when I started thinking of this, it really made me mad. I was wondering if anyone else remembers the movie, I never saw it, and I never want to, and I never even hear about it again, but it is about a guy pretending to be MR so he could race in the Special Olympics?

I think things like this are horrible!! I have a cousin with autism, who will never be able to live by himself, never be able to drive. At almost 17 he still rarely talks. My brother has Asperger's Syndrome, I have Asperger's syndrome (although I don't really consider that special needs) I know people with Down Syndrome, people who at my school and around my community, who I see on a regular basis that these jerks were making fun of.

I think this is why everybody, especially teenagers and kids are so ignorant and unaware of different conditions. Because the producers of this movie thought it was okay to make jokes about the people who have to live with this every single day. I think that kids watching the movie or any other thing that makes fun of any other condition, Epilepsy, Down Syndrome or Autism. Even saying "you're retarded" drives me insane! People at my school, including my friends, say things like "tard" "tard baby" "tardzilla" and it really hurts me. Just saying that is a horrible thing to do. It hurts me when people say things like that. When people make stupid jokes like that, I think it leads to people thinking it's okay to make fun of people who have medical conditions. And I am so sick of it!

I don't watch movies very much. The last time I saw a movie was over ten years ago.

I'll take that as a sign that it wasn't a big commercial success.

I think it's more than the media influence. It's about a social status. Nobody wants to be at the bottom, so they go with the flow. It's so much easier to mock than it is to help somebody. The rude ones have a hollow ego and they need to build their ego based upon some form of 'success'. You know that old saying: 'The bigger they are, the harder they fall!".

Personally, I found people behave very differently on an individual basis then when they're merged in with a group. They can be incredibly nice individually, but they fear their social status will drop in the group. I used to have a really bad enemy. After this person saw me several times standing for a bus, he realized my world was very different from his world. He is now one of my best friends. He actually looks out for my well being. It blew me away.

Ironically, so many people remembered me after high school and liked me. I was pretty oblivious to the nice people. My sister said many people would notice me and I didn't have a clue they liked me. It's so easy to build and keep a barrier of defense, but it also shuts out the good people.

The media is glorified with all kinds of drama. They make money off of it. Pay attention to who sponsors their TV shows and which studios make their movies. Ban them. They're not worth your time or money. Write to them concerning your disgust.

I vaguely remember that movie. You are more than correct to condemn it and any sponser. That may be the reason it dissappeared so quickly. Not very good public relations sponsering that kind of crap.

You also make the point of the language being used constantly making it seem OK. I never let a movie be the blame for personal responsibility, but repeated exposure to violence or degrading activities tends to lead those who are irresponsible down the same path.

Hello! Yes, I remember the movie you are talking about...but I also, can't remember the name. I thought the trailer was so stupid and pathetic, that I wasn't willing to waste my money on it. And honestly, I think that's the only way to get media to listen. Refuse to give them your money.
