"Pre-Existing Conditions"I've been waiting over two years for my damned disability, I'm stuck at my moms, I have no income... I have to get out of here somehow. Currently I'm on Medicare. Or is it Medicaid? I always get them confused... Anyway, that is how I can afford my medication. I added it up and it totals to a little under $25,000 a year for my medication. Problems: 1. If I get a job that pays too much, I won't be eligible for Medicare(aid?). 2. If I'm not eligible for Medicare, I won't be able to pay for my meds, unless I get a GOOD job, or if my job has an insurance policy. 3. I know that a lot of companies have polices against 'pre-existing conditions'... I've been epileptic since I was 16... So even if I got a job at Wal-Mart or something, I'm sure their insurance wouldn't pay for $25k worth of meds for an employee that is paid only $10 an hour... Suggestions? Advice? Anything? |

| If you get a job, group insurance will pay for your medications. You don't have to go through any kind of pre-existing condition screening that you did pre-2010 with private insurance companies. If you are working full time and have insurance they don't have a choice. They won't cover everything completely but they have to pay for something. |

| Starbucks Barista. Starbucks has some of the best health insurance around, and it's for ALL employees. Since it's a group pollicy, they'll cover any preexising conditions. They hire for attitude, not necessarily for education or experience, so if you get an interview don your PMA hat. (positive mental attitude) They hire people they think will make customers happy and give them a great experience (as well as the usual show up on time, be efficient, do a good job, etc.). |

| I had some of the same fears when I finally landed my first teaching job, and then when I had to find my second after a round of layoffs the next year. The first job did not have any "preexisting" restrictions on the insurance since the group was so large. My current job does have that restriction, but the clause was pretty typical in that there was a waiting period ( it was like six months or a year) where it would not pay for any doctor/medical bills for the illness, but it would pay for medication. So I just had my regular doctor (that I went to for an unrelated problem) write my script until I could get to the neurologist again. Also, if you had insurance before (and I believe that Medicare/Medicaid counts), you were given credit towards the waiting period. So I had had insurance for 10 months out of the last year, so I only had to wait 2 months before they would cover everything. If I hadn't been without insurance between jobs, they would have covered everything from the beginning. You might have to provide something called "certificate of credible coverage" which you might ask your medicare/medicaid case worker for. Good luck on the job search! |

| Until I get some money to move, I also have to consider the fact that I am on foot. My epilepsy is to the point that I can't hold a license, so I'm stuck walking. Where I live, the public transportation is practically non-existent. My only other option would be to get a job somewhere and establish a carpool setup with someone else working there, then flip them some cash for gas and such... Not to mention, the jobs in my area are terrible. "Endless" mentioned Starbucks, there isn't one in my town, in fact I don't think there is one in any of the adjoining towns either... |

| No starbucks? Not on any corner, and not ANYWHERE? Wow.... the name "black hole" really IS descriptive. P.S. I dream of living in a town like that. Or one with more trees than strip malls. |

| Haha, La Porte here is definitely a black hole. Best part: We're called the 'Maple City', yet we've cut down most of our maple trees... La Porte means 'The Door' in French...
