CT has now been changed to MRI

The hospital just called and the radiologists want to perform an MRI instead of a CT. Did any of you go through multiple tests such as MRI, CT, etc.?

The EEG was already abnormal in response to photic stimulation and the seizures have a focal onset.

We are new to this so we have so many questions.

Usually for the first seizure they do both.

With the exceptions of a few things like spine fractures and acute head trauma, the MRI is replacing the CT in all areas. So really you are getting a greater benefit by having your test switched, unless you've recently been injured in the head, neck, or shoulder's area

A CT can be good to check for general head injury. The MRI is considered more accurate, but it can also be more stressful for the patient because of having to remain still while partially inside a noisy tube.

Thank you for the additional information. We are quite happy that the radiologist recommended an MRI instead of the CT because of the radiation involved with a CT. We know that our son may have to be sedated during the MRI because of its duration. We are grateful that we live near an excellent pediatric hospital and our son will be able to receive the best possible care.

We really appreciate everyone taking the time to answer our questions. We do not know anyone who has a child with a seizure disorder so this forum is a logical place for us to turn to.
