Just had an email from my sons Nureologist with his MRI results. Just another wierd piece of the puzzle. "There is an area of inflammation in the left putamen. This is part of the basal ganglia that controls movement on the right-hand side of the body." He has asked for the discs to be sent to him so he can discuss it with his colleagues. He is also waiting on the results of his LP and bloods which should be in within a week or two.
It seemed strange to me not that they found something but that it was on his left side as it is the left side of his body he has trouble with weakness etc and his EEG showed slower brain waves on the back right of his brain.
We see the Nureo mid August so hopefully all the test results will be in by then but looks like no clear answer yet but I see it as at least one step closer.
If anyone has any info on the part of the brain mentioned above and if swelling there could cause his seizures I would appreciate it.
Thanks.
Donnajane.

Glad to hear you are closer to getting some answers! Im still waiting on my daughter's sleep study result's. Trying to be patient but it gets hard. Wish you and your son the best!!

It may have been a mistake. I don't know if you've looked at the MRI images yourself, but they are flipped as if you are standing in front of the person looking down at the head so that the left is on your right and vice verse. Sometimes the techs or doctors will flip the image in the computer so it seems more logical and then forget that they have done that. I have a tumor on the left side of my brain, but on several occasions I've had to correct my doctors when they say something about the right side of my brain. It was even in the paperwork for my surgery. Thanks goodness they had me go over all the paperwork, and thank goodness I had been going over all my medical records and studying my case so that I could catch the mistake.

I hope they find out what's going on and are able to help. It sounds like your neuro is trying to be thorough. But never be afraid to speak up and ask questions. Even good, conscientious doctors can make mistakes.

Thanks that thought never ever crossed my mind. Definetly will ask when we see Nureo on 16th Aug.
I think the MRI has made me a little more concerned now when he has his strange events/periods as I wonder what will come next if the inflamation gets worse.
Waiting now for next part of the jig saw puzzle with his LP and blood results. Hopefully they will give us more info and Nureo and other specialists can put the pieces together and give us a better picture of what is happening with our little man.
Can't believe how much I have learn't since he was born and how much we still have yet to learn. The term seziure has such a different meaning to me now than before my son was born, I thought all seizures where when someone was on the groung with limbs jerking, how ignorant was I!!!

Hi donnajane,

I just read your profile and saw how young your little guy is. That must make this situation even more scary. I know it's never easy for a parent whatever the age of the child, but when they are so young that you can't explain to them what an MRI is, etc. it must be even more difficult. I really hope the neuros figure out what's going on!

Take care of yourself and be sure to let us know what you find out.

Hugs to you and your little man :)

I know swelling in the brain can cause seizures. Though that particular area, I don't know. I am sorry to hear what you are dealing with. You have my prayers. Have faith in the strength of the human body, the ability to heal itself rivals logic itself. God bless you and your son.

Thank you everyone for your great support and the information and experiences you share. You have all really helped my family keep looking for answers for our little man! His smile melts out hearts and his laughter is music to ears and makes up for when he has his NQR times and events. We feel so blessed to have 3 beautifal children.

Hopefully these next 3 weeks will go quickly until with see his Nureo and Paed again and ideally before then the metabolic specialists will get the results of his LP and blloods and it will give us more answers.

hi donnajane --

It sounds very promising that they've found more information work with. The putamen primarily regulates movement (including limb movement), so any inflammation there may well be related to your sons tremors/jerks.

We are happy that have finnally found something which may help them along the way to work out what is going on. I will admit I have been "googling" about the area which is inflamed and it has been an interesting read.

I think once they call the results the specialists will be able to sit down with the results, his EEG's and then look at the footage we have of most of his events, just missing the drop seziures and where his eyes go back, plenty of examples of his other events, strange walking and other weird eyes though. Maybe then with everything in front of them someone may be able to work out whats going on!
