- Seizure Background
- I've suffered with health problems the past 8 years with Ulcerative Colitis, Cardiomyopathy, all connecting to later illnesses, 3 kidney failures, dehydration & most recently a brain hemorrhage and a seizure. I had my seizure January 4th 2011 & they seem to think it's related to the kidney failure and high potassium level I'd been hospitalized for two days before. Two days out of the hospital, I went into a Grand Mal seizure and was unconscious for several minutes. I woke in the back of an ambulance but don't recall ride to the hospital & went unconscious again and woke on a bed in the ER. I was referred to a Neurologist & he ordered an EEG & MRI two weeks after I saw him and after having the seizure. EEG was normal but when they did the MRI March 1st, discovered a brain bleed, severe enough to push my brain to the side & had to be rushed to another hospital for emergency brain surgery. The bleed may be the cause of seizure or it may be the kidney failure and high potassium which had been 9.4. I've been following up with the Neurologist for a year and half & will have another EEG in November. I'm currently taking the anti seizure medicine Levetiracetam (Keppra). We don't have answers to why I had the seizure since bleeding had stopped by the time they found it and possibly covered the reason for the seizure
