    Seizure Background
I have a 2 year old son that was diagnosed with epilepsy 3 weeks ago. Before the sudden onset of seizures, he was a normal child. He caught a flu like illness that I treated naturopathically for the fevers and symptoms. One night I decided that it would be a good idea to give him a break and so I gave him Children's Advil~below the recommended dose to keep the fever away in his sleep. That night he had his first seizure that I thought was a snoring attack. The next night, after getting his fever down with liquids and herbal tintures to aide his immune system, I gave him another dose of Children's Advil. At four in the morning he had his second seizure that noticably got my attention. It took 4 days and 1 ER visit and 12 more seizures to get someone to see my son in an office and finally admit him to the hospital for further observation. The CAT and the MRI came back normal. But the EEG test showed irregular brain waives. The last seizure he had before they put him on Keppra was different. It lasted about 20 seconds instead of the regular 25-30 second ones and he seemed more aware of his surroundings through it. Immediately afterwards, my son was able to clutch me and push the doctor away when the doctor attempted to listen to his heartbeat (normally my son would go limp for ten minutes and couldn't grab his sippy cup yet he could still talk). They would not let him leave the hospital without beginning medication. The Keppra has caused him to get very angry very quickly, be very aggressive; pinching, scratching, hitting and biting. This behavior is abnormal for a child that has been my little loving, bouncy clown throughout his short little life. His legs hurt at night before he goes to sleep. I have begun to do naturopathic healing that does not interfere with the Keppra, but it has helped him ground faster.
I have an update: It is October 23, 2008. It has been 3 months since my son has had a seizure. I continue doing my natural remedies alongside his weaned down dose of Keppra. We went from 5mL to 4mL; I accidentally took him down to 3.5mL without any ill effect. We are now working on weaning him down to 2.5mL, recommended by the neurologist after he did a 24 hour brain wave check and found my son's brain waves to be normal. I am excited and nervous and pray for my son's recovery still. I am hopeful and grateful for all that I have been through and at the same time forever scarred with this experience.
    Treatments
My son now takes Keppra. 2.5mL by mouth 2xday; every 12 hrs. I also give him Ear and Nerve & Antispasmodic Formulas w/Lobelia by mouth 4xday and I rub the Ear and Nerve into the base of his skull.
