- Seizure Background
- I had complex partial seizures for an unknown period of time before I started having grand mal seizures; usually once a month within a few days of menstruation. The neurologist who prescribed Lamictal (which eventually controlled the seizures) told me that seizures caused my long-term memory loss of the first 47 years of my life. They didn't wipe out my intelligence or semantic memories; just my episodic memories (all the details of my life, including people I knew, places I went/lived, things I learned, etc. Ever since the seizures were controlled, I've been able to remember everything after that, but I doubt if my lost long-term memories will ever return.
