    Hi CQ
I don't drive either so I also do a lot of walking, try to go every day. I take the dog with me and now she has lost weight.
I "try" to watch what I eat but I HAVE to have my coffee (even though caffine is a trigger, it doesn't bother me).
    Have a great weekend.

    Hi Robyn

I'm going well thanks, keeping my seizures pretty well under control at the moment.

I have been fairly busy lately so don't always get time to call in here.

Been keeping an eye on what I eat for over a year now. I do treat myself to take away type food once a week but now a days I find I dont enjoy eating take away food anymore. Since I don't drive I do heaps of walking, I try to go out & do a good walk at less once a week.

    How is Rebecca going?

    Hi Randy,

It must be hard to see your sister like that & knowing she will probably never get better.

Since coming on this forum I have learnt alot about epilepsy. My family do realise that my epilepsy won't go away & support me. My Mum always seems to know when I take a seizure (even a small one), guess thats mothers instinct for you.

I have a good neurologist who always encourages me to let him know if I have any kinds of seizures no matter how big or small they are. I also keep an epilepsy diary where I put any seizures I have.

I do feel that I am lucky because I don't have too many tonic clonics & my partial seizures are currently under control.

    Hi CQ
Dispite what you may have heard or your mum may think ~ Epilepsy does not go away but it can be controlled.
Here's an interesting example of that thinking and what can happen as a result:

My 46 year old sister who was dx'd with EP when she was 13 yrs old.
At that time she didn't see a specialist, (1972 not much known about about the condition at that time) but instead, saw her family doc who over prescribed pheonobarb and dilantin, so much that it became toxic in her system and caused brain damage after long term use.

It (the grande mal seizure) was triggered when she got her first menstrual cycle.(puberty)
At that time, my mother took her to the family doc. but instead of getting a second opinion, she let the family doc. over medicate her.
The meds were so powerful that she has never advanced past age 13. Now she's 46 and has never worked a day in her life or played any sports and couldn't even complete high school or have a family because she was constantly in a fog and everything is "TOO STRESSFUL".

I blame my mother for most of her problems because every time my mother takes her to see a doc. if she doesn't hear what SHE wants, she takes her to another doc. because she doesn't want her daughter to be labeled as having a disability. I don't have anything to do with my mother because of what she's done to my sister.(Kelly).

Now my sister (Kelly) is so messed up that she barely regognizes me, She tried some voluteer work at the hospital and I happened to be in there one day to visit a friend and when I called out to her she didn't know who I was at first for a few minutes. When she speaks (which is rare) she looks through you. not at you. You have to speak to her like she is a 13 year old or she can't understand. She can't complete a setance without messing it up.

Her gait and co-ordination is so bad that she is always holding on to something and when she walks she always looks like she's going to fall.
She's a walking vegitable. What kind of a life is that.

My mother thinks that Doctors are stupid and just like to use big words.
Thank god I was dx'd after I had moved out or that might have happened to me.

All this from being over medicated.
And she still has several grand-mal seizures a week.
So this is what can happen if you're not careful and the meds go toxic in you're body.

    Hi Ran Man

I was too young to remember the seizures I took when i was little. My family have always been open about the epilepsy & told me about the seizures I used to take.

When I stopped taking the seizures as a child the dr told my parents that I had grown out of the epilepsy. I think my Mum used to still be concerned that one day I'd start taking seizures again.

I still take partial seizures but the seizures have dropped since I have been of the Topamax & been on the Keppra.

My memory still isn't too good at times & I have forgotten to take my night meds a couple of times. I've recently got myself a small alarm which I set to go of the same time each night so I have no reason to forget my meds now .

    Hi CQ
I read in your "about me" that you went 22 years w/o a grand mal seizure. Your story sounds very similar to mine. I went 23 years seizure free but had to stay on the anti-epileptic drugs (like you) and then had my second one in 2002.
Since then I'm constantly getting partials (like you).

I think the seizure actiity is deep within the brain and it doesn't show up on EEGs or MRIs. It's almost like it goes in to remission. Then all of a sudden, several years later, something triggers it, maybe it's a combination of our age and how our bodies handle stress.

    Hi RanMan

We got as much packed as we could. The boss has been away this week so we left his desk for him to pack lol.

The boss is going to be spending the weekend moving all the stuff into the new office.

The office I volunteer at closed Tonight for christmas holidays & won't be reopening until mid January next year.

We do share with another organisation & they had been moving their things into the new building every day & only have the heavy furniture to move over to the new building. The organisation we share with have to be up & going again by 8am monday morning so they have no time to muck about lol

About Me

  • About CQ:)
    Seizure Background
I was diagnosed with epilepsy as a baby & I used to have Grandmal Seizures regularly from 9 months - 2 - 3 years old.
I went 22 years seizure free until May 2002 when at the age of 24 I started taking seizures again & I was diagnosed with Left Front Temporal Lobe Epilepsy. Most of my seizures were auras & complex partial seizures.

After trying me on 5 different medications, with none of them helping to completely control my seizures my Neurologist suggested to me to think about having Brain Surgery to help control the seizures.
I decided to give the surgery ago & after having a series of different tests done to see if I could have the surgery I was told in November 2010 that I was a good candidate for the Surgery. On 10 March 2011 I had left side frontal lobe labotomy.

    Update as of March 2012.
I'm now 12 months seizure free since the surgery & aiming to go 2 years seizure free now.
I am now able to start to gradually reduce one of my meds & on 26th March 2012 I lowered my Tegretol under the supervision of my Neurologist.
