About Me

  • About CQ:)
    Seizure Background
I had my 1st seizure in 1978 when I was 9 months old, I continued to take Tonic Clonic seizures on a regular basis when I was a baby/toddler & I stopped taking seizures when I was about 3 but kept on medication until I was 7.

I went 21 years seizure free until my seizures returned in May 2002 when I was 24.
I was referred straight to a neurologist after having a tonic clonic in hospital, I had an EEG which showed seizure activity then had a MRI which showed scarring on my left temporal lobe which was thought to be from the seizures I had as a baby/toddler.

After my seizures returned I had mainly simple/complex partials on a regular basis with the odd tonic clonic. My neurologist tried me on 5 Anti Epilepsy Meds, none of which helped control the partial seizures so in 2009 he suggested I look into having brain surgery.

After seeing a epiologist then going through pre surgery tests I was accepted to have brain surgery at the end of 2010 & had the surgery in March 2011.

In March 2012 my neurologist at the epilepsy clinic started to slowly wean me of Tegretol which was done very slowly over a year. In March 2013 I had my seizures under control so we stopped the Tegretol & I was just on Keppra.

After I came of the Tegretol I was still going well but I was having funny feelings in my head every month, usually they didn't affect my every day life but then I started to write gibberish after some of the funny feelings.

Update as of April 2014 - I saw my neurologist at the epilepsy clinic at the end of March for a follow up appt, we discussed the funny feelings. The neurologist isn't 100% sure what they are but is thinking they are simple partials so we agreed to try Tegretol again & he put me back on 200mg Tegretol AM & PM.
The neurologist is going to monitor the funny feelings & see if the Tegretol helps reduce them & wants to see me again around September.
