- Seizure Background
- When I was young...10 or so, I would get 'sick' about every two to three weeks or so. No fever or real illness.
I would usually wake up in the middle of the night with severe abdominal cramps...then I would have severe diarrhea and vomit at the same time. I would be sitting on the toilet with my mom holding the trash can for me to vomit it. I would go back to bed and wake up like nothing ever happened, other then a headache.
That is right around the same time I began to have migraines. The abdominal cramps and vomiting lasted into my eariler twenties. In my 30 and 40's, I just get the abdominal cramping and diarrhea....and not very often anymore.
I went to gastroenterologist as a child, underwent many tests....and they determined I had a 'nervous stomach' and IBS.
Nothing ever helped and I still have the migraines and now maybe seizures.....I wonder if I really have been having seizures all my life? .......abdominal epilepsy!
Currently....as of May 2010, I am not diagnosed, but these are my episodes: (all are separate episodes)
For years, I have periods of zoning out/blank stare with hand clasped and rolling thumbs with mouth and lip movements. Kids would be over me wavy hands in front of my face....saying, mom, hello mom. Difficulty with memory and finding words.
My friends have told me, I just leave a conversation mid steam never to return. I sometimes just miss gaps of time.
Recently, I have jerks and muscle twitches. My hands and feet get numb and tingling, like pins and needles too.
I get this buzzing, vibrating feeling in my head, like under my scalp. Also, my eyes move rapidly, almost like they vibrate.
I feel like the room is spinning, kinda like if you look up at a ceiling fan, but I am looking at the floor, but I see, a 'ceiling fan' like rotation movment on the floor when there is none....or sometimes the floor looks wavy.
Twice in April and once in May 2010, I have awaken about midnight, confused, thinking it was morning with my teeth tightly clenched, bad taste in mouth (like metal) and having bitten the inside of my cheeks..
For years, I have many visual pictures of being in a snow blizzard or star shower, where the 'snow, stars' are moving very fast past me.
I have awoken at night seeing a brightly colored area, tightly contained, maybe like a firework from far, far away, or even a woman's old brooch (pin).
I have seen small wavy, moving, wiggling lines of light going from the top down, kind of like, confetti falling.
I was lying down, kinda between awake and asleep, when my heart started pounding, racing, breathing fast....I saw all kinds of shapes, letter moving sideways across my vision. My eyes were moving very fast. I felt kinda sick to my stomach. I bit the inside of my cheek slightly.
One night when I went to bed, I was lying there and my arms, my legs, my whole body began to twitch and jerk.....but it was over in like 20 seconds or so. Nothing else happened.
My ears will get a very full, ringing, muffled feeling....then go to no hearing at all....then back to the full muffled, high pitched echo, very hard to hear feeling.
I had an EEG that showed a grade 2 dysrythmia with spikes in the left parietal lobe.
June 2010 I am now Dx with simple and complex partial seizures.
Started on topamax for 3 weeks, allergic reaction (SOB, heart, rash, itch) zonegran for 2 months allergic reaction too (swollen face, eyelids, hands, itch...coughing up blood) Next Keppra XR for about two weeks; allergic to it too! (swollen face, racing heart, palpations) - Treatments
