- Seizure Background
- Diagnosed with epilepsy in middle school. Grand mal seizures and only when I am sleeping. Started on 400 milligrams of Dilantin split between two doses, on in morning and one in evening. Went to 400 milligrams of Dilantin at once, at bedtime, after convincing my mother and doctor that the medicine was causing my concentration issues in early morning math. From there I have gone up 100 milligrams of Dilantin every three or four years. Regular level testing has not caught any need to increase dosing. A seizure or two lets me know I need more. I fainted two weeks ago when I awoke in the night for the bathroom. A couple days after I had dizziness, trouble walking, no coordination, unable to really speak coherently. It started at noon at I was over it by 6 pm, everyday. I don't work but I do have children that I need to take care of and they are kind of awake during that time. I went to my doctor in the morning before I was feeling any effects. My doctor took my levels. I got a frantic call later that day from my doctor telling me to stop my medicine. My level was at 45 and it was supposed to be 10-20. After some back and forth with my doctor who forgot to schedule a level testing for me at the hospital, another doctor at her office told me to start 600 milligrams of Dilantin and go back for testing in a week.
My last seizure was last May. Apparently I went to the hospital for it but I barely remember it. - Treatments
- Dilantin 600 mgs (temporarily)
