    Seizure Background
I had my first seizure at 12 while at a New Year's party where there was a strobe light. Very quickly new "triggers" started to pop up; I have seizures from lack of sleep, hunger, strong smells, tv/computer screens in a dark room, vibrating massagers, getting too hot, caffine, and stress. I had to drop out of high school the beginning of my junior year, which was the hardest thing I ever had to do. I am now 21. I can't drive, leave home to go to college, or even get off the couch if one of my parents isn't home. I have a VNS (vagus nerve stimulator) but it doesn't work for me and I had it turned off. I looked into brain surgery, but my seizures are not localized; they spread across my entire brain, so removing part of my brain would be pointless. I've just about run out of treatment options and my seizures are still out of control. Even with all this, I try to remain optimistic and put on a smile. :) I've been on the waiting list for a seizure alert dog for 3 years now, and once I get one, I'm going to take full advantage of the freedom!
