Hi Beth,
Any more news on the job front?
-
Randy,
The loss of job comes from business closing. After so many years it will be a big change for me as it was a small company and i had invested much of myself into it.
We had only started our retirement plan about 9 years ago (after many demands on my part) so finances are going to be a big adjustment. (exp. with econ. at present).
My children are now 24 and 27 so this is all they really remember me doing and many times went into work with me in the evenings after hours while i finished up paper work etc. so they basically grew up there Ie: had the run of the store ( I work in retail).

Hi Beth,
A lot of people think that not being able to drive is no big deal but as you mentioned in your last post to me, you're right, there's A LOT MORE TO IT than that ~ the emotional factor and not feeling capable or feeling like something's missing.
-
Beth,
So sorry to hear that you're losing your job at the end of June. Did your employer indicate why?
It's not b/c of your Ep I hope b/c that is illegal.
They can get around that law by saying they're "downsizing" or something like that.
How do you feel about it ~ after being there 19 years.
How does your family feel about it?
I'm interested b/c my family had to go through a lot of adjustment, ie: only getting paid a pension ONCE a month and BUDGET what you have, which is especially hard b/c I have 2 adult kids living with me and one doesn't work b/c he has problems ~ He is bi-polar and putting us through hell.

Randy,
I know what you mean about the indpendence thing and it does suck!! I am in the same position as you, my husband is my driver when he is not at work and a co-worker gives me a ride to work but i have been informed that my job will be terminated the end of June (after 19 years there) not sure what my future holds in the job area!!. Others don't understand that its more that just not being able to drive so it was nice to hear from you. By the way I go by Beth to my friends.
take care
Beth

Having no drivers lisense now after driving my whole adult life really sucks, it's like a part of my freedom has been lost.
Luckily my wife does all the driving and when she's at work, I do a lot of walking with my dog and luckily I am close to public transit.
I hate depending on other people to drive me places.
So Elizabeth, other than that, I have no advice for you.

Ran,
I lost my D.L. just a couple of months ago and that has been a huge adjustment for me. Small town living is great except there is no public transp. of any type. Luckily i have lots of friends. Just getting used to things, like being more organized in the kitchen so i don't do the oops i need and its raining like crazy and i don't want to walk to the store and return home drenched. LOL. Any tips you want to share???

Hi Elizabeth,
I was diagnosed with epilepsy in 1979. After years of testing and meds, I was able to live a perfectly normal life.
My seizures have been under control 'til 2002, then they started again.
Unfortunately, I lost my Drivers Lisense at that point.
I have to stay on the meds b/c my EEGs keep showing active seizure activity in my lower temporal lobe.
I also have Ulcerative Colitis which is also stress related.

I am still a newbie. I have had symptoms for many years but a formal diagnosis was in sept. 08 so there are many things i am just learning. One thing i have learned is that i was blessed in all the things i was able to do before seizures progressed. I am still at the increase and see if we can find the right med mix stage. And yourself??
