- I started having grand-mal seizures at seventeen. I was put on Tegretol and then Dilantin to try to stop the partial complex breakthrough seizures. I'm a Momma to two beautiful kids, who suffered no ill-defects from the Dilantin. (They are bratty on occasion though, is that a birth defect?) Fourteen years later, in 1995, I had an MRI which discovered that I had a golf-ball sized brain tumor,(right frontal lobe, oglio...somethin-er-other) It was removed in a flash in 1995. And, thank God I am now seizure-free unless I screw up my meds. I've been under the care of three different neurologists and I'm currently taking 400mg. Phenytoin by Amneal, (generic Dilantin).
