- I began having strange "episodes" (a few different kinds) about 16 years ago, then was diagnosed with panic disorder about 13 years ago and placed on diazepam for this. It was suspected some years ago that some of my episodes I described to the Doctor were seizures, but I did not follow through with tests because I didnt know enough about different types of epilepsy and was convinced all my symptoms were from a nervous disorder. Then in Jan of 2007 I had an episode that lasted longer than normal and I lost my vision and fell to the floor. I had an MRI in Feb 07, and was diagnosed with mesial temporal sclerosis. I decided not to take a stronger medication unless I continued with these stronger episodes, and am currently still taking diazepam. Recently I began having new stronger symptoms of what I believe are "nerves" but I am not sure. My doctor increased my dose of medication that I have been taking the same amount of for 13 years until now. This is helping some. I am still very confused about all of this, and not sure I can tell the difference between a seizure and a panic attack sometimes.
A battle with a lot of emotional problems that feel out of my control, with odd panic type reactions to many things that do not make sense at all. I have been told that it is possible that the brain scarring I have in the temporal lobe can contribute to this, but even knowing this, I still feel very confused about it, and really want to talk to others who have epilepsy who might understand and relate to this. - Treatments
