- Seizure Background
- I'm a 60 year old female, who has had epilepsy my whole life, however I was not diagnosed
until I was 18 years old, right after I was married.
My Parents couldn't deal with it (I guess) and as a child I didn't have the words to tell them
I would scream and say "I've seen it before, please make it stop"
This was of course deja vu and a seizure would follow.
I would stop speaking and stare ahead, smack my lips, swallow hard and often. I would have
a taste in my mouth when it was over.
I was 1st. put on Dilantin and Phenob. until 2004, My seizures seem to get worse as the years
went by. I guessing it was because I was on birth control pills.
I have been on about all the medic. out there, only to have horrible side effects or seizures.
In 2005 at Emory Hosp. on an MRI it finally showed what was the cause of my epilepsy. It was
something on the right side of my brain. I have a copy of the MRI and I take to each new Neur.
I see. All the other tests (EEG, MRI) always came back normal.
I was put on clonazepam 0.5mg by FP in 2004 for insomnia.
I was put on Keppra at the Emory Hosp. Epileptologist, This was the worse meds. that I have
ever taken. I had to have a sitter for 4 months.
I went back to my neur. that I had seen back in 1978, I asked him to put me back on dilantin an
Phenob. He agreed to put me back on Dilantin, but refused to put me back on Phenob.
He did not want to add a 3th meds. so he said since I was already taking clonazepam, he would
perfer that I try taking 1/2 tablet ever 6 hours, then every 5 hours, it was when I tried every
4 hrs. that my seizures became manageable.
I was mgr. of the accouting dept. for 22 years with my seizures. No problem, just got back too
work.
Now, I don't have the energy or the frame of mind (memory issues) to hold down a job.
I have no children so it gets very lonely here.
Back to my seizure, now the only time I have a seizure is when I have been presc. a new meds.
or I buy over the counter meds. like vit. B6, B12 or folic acid. I now have these compounded.
My issue now is depression. I've been presc. 16 diff. meds. but I'm unable to tolerate the
side effects.
