    Seizure Background
I began having complex partial seizures three years ago, at age 51. They decreased and eventually stopped with high doses of carbamazapine, but the side effects were extreme fatigue, memory loss, weight gain, and inability to concentrate. I later switched to a 400 g dose of carbamazapine combined with 100g dose of Topamirate, which continued to eliminate the seizures without the side effects, then eventually switched entirely to topamirate, 125 g daily. This is 25 g less than my neurologist prescribed, but it seems to work, and avoids the tingling and jittery side effects I felt with 150 g. I hope to wean off meds altogether eventually, which my neurologist feels may be possible, given the idiopathic onset of my seizures.
