- Seizure Background
- I'm 41 years old and started suffering from simple partial seizures about 6 years ago. After an MRI I was diagnosed with Meisal temporal schlerosis in my right temporal lobe. At 39 my epilepsy took a turn for the worse and I started to have grand mal seizures. Epilepsy runs in my family and my sister suffered from it in her early teen years. She had surgery and has been seizure free for over 20 years now. Based on her success I decided to get tested to see if I was a cadidate for surgery and as luck would have it I was. On March 25th 2009 I had my right temporal hippocampus removed and although the road to recovery is long and slow I'm happy to say that I am so far seizure free.
About 2 years ago I suffered my first grand mal seizure and I've had 6 more since then. I've also had a few complex partial seizures intermixed with the grand mals. Last August I went into the Epilepsy unit to see if I was a candidate for surgery since the drugs I've tried so far haven't done much to control the seizures. On March 25th I had a right temporal lobe resection to remove the scar tissue. It has now been 12 months since my last seizure and I'm in the procses of trying to get my freedom back by applying for my license suspension to be lifted. - Treatments
