    Seizure Background
I suffer from Mesial temporal lobe epilepsy. I never get generalized seizures, only partial seizures and that too auras (Epigastric aura). I cannot read or concentrate on any activity for more than an hour . If I do so I feel as if I am going to faint and then I lie down and take rest. Then after a few hours I become normal. I suffer from severe Gastrointestinal disturbances, initially diagnosed wrongly as Irritable bowel syndrome. I am taking oxcarbazepine (300mg twice) and clonazepam (0.5 mg twice for the past one year. I would say I have improved by 20 % but not sufficient enough to take up a job again. I don't know what to do ? I am thinking of asking my neurologist to add some new medicines during my next visit. I am a 38 year old male who started having partial seizures (violent shaking of vision) but did not loose consciousness in 1980. I was treated with Phenytoin and carbamazepine for 3 years and then my EEG became normal and the neurologist stopped the medications and after that my vision became normal. I did not get that symptom again. But the peculiar, unexplainable symptoms started with stopping of carbamazepine. I used to feel a dreamy state and slowly the symptoms increased but the EEGs were absolutely normal. I suffered like this for nearly 25 years. Then my present symptoms worsened and I got GI disturbance, depression and physical and mental tiredness. Then I consulted a neurologist again and the EEG clearly showed I had partial seizures which he described as paroxysms or mesial temporal lobe epilepsy.
