Seizure free since, except small auras or SPS
Medication free since June 1985
SPS seem to be getting worse/changing the last few years
Auras used to be a rising feeling in my stomach, in 2003 I noticed a tingling in my left hand during an aura, never gave it much thought, over time this tingling became a slight numbness and was moving up my arm the change was very gradual over a number of years, I also noticed I was salivating during an aura, the feeling in my stomach was also becoming more intense and moving up into my chest.
In 2007 I finally went to a Dr about it, he sent me for an EEG came back negative. Went for an MRI which showed how much brain was removed during the RTL I had no idea they took the whole temporal lobe region. I was also told that an aura is a simple partial seizure, didn't know that either.
The Dr wanted to drug me right away but I chose not to. Scared of the meds.
2011 the auras as I still refer to them have gotten even more intense, the rising in my stomach moves up to my chest then throat I feel the need to vomit, dry heaved some of the times depending on the severity of the aura. Back for another EEG still nothing, and another MRI no changes, got a referal to a epilepsy specialist, who was awesome and explained a lot of thing but could not answer the question whether the SPS will become a CPS, he explained some medication options.
The good thing is that I had a Simple Partial Seizure in front of him, during it he asked me to remember some words he listed off, after the SPS I told him the words he had said.
I agreed to go on Tegretol (Carbamazepine)
Back on Tegretol 600mg a day, after 26 years of no meds. (Nov 22, 2011)
Still having seizures only 2 in the last 6 weeks, Dr. increased meds to 800mg, 400 twice a day (Jan 10, 2012)
Going off Tegretol as it is giving nasty headaches and making me too tired, also isn't stopping the SPS, started on Lamictal, slowly increasing to 100mg 2 times a day. May 15, 2012 - Treatments
