- Seizure Background
- I have only had three tonic clonics, but have had several partials. My first two were in the same day while I was 24 years old in college (in the middle of a class lecture, where the speaker stopped talking and stared at me and told someone to call 911, but I don't remember any of this), the second one was later that day in my then-boyfriend's car when he was driving me back from the hospital. I had an EEG done, but they found nothing, and I think they attributed the seizure to a diet pill I was taking. I stopped taking anything like that after that experience, but after that, I started noticing the auras (I don't know if I'd ever had them before that first day, though it's very possible, because I do remember getting dizzy spells off and on), and have had spurts of them off and on. Usually I'll have several of them for a few days, then I won't have any for awhile, but I stopped going to the doctor for anything like that because they didn't find anything, and I felt like a hypochondriac.
Unfortunately, I couldn't ignore it forever, because my third tonic-clonic was in April of this year, a couple of years after the first ones happened, while deployed with the Army in Afghanistan (fortunately I had a desk job). I was having a pretty intense aura that day, and a couple hours later someone walked in while I was on the floor having the seizure, with blood all over the ground (I had hit my head the flag pole in my office). After that they sent me back to the U.S. because you clearly cannot carry a weapon if you've had a seizure within the past year, and you can't be deployed without being able to carry a weapon... After that and an abnormal EEG I was diagnosed with epilepsy. - Treatments
