- Seizure Background
- My name is Laurie, I have petiteMal seizures and for the longest time this is how they have been. I would receive an Aura with enough time to sit or lay down while my whole left side cramps up. I would still be aware of what was going on around me at the time and I would be able to speak and understand others all while having a seizure, so I was able to explain to anyone around me at the time what was happening to me. I was 13 when I began having these seizures. I am now 29 and over the past year or two they began changing. Now when I have one, sometimes I don't get an aura but if i do it's shorter than before. I then get a terrified look on my face and begin screaming very loud. I sit or lay down as I'm screaming and this usually lasts about 30 seconds to a minute. I am completly incoherent while this is going on. When I stop screaming, it's like I'm asleep and this can last up to a couple minutes. When I come to, I am unable to communicate at all. I am completely unaware of what just happened, what I'm doing, and what's going on around me. I can't understand anything anyone says and am very easily seriously frightened. This state of confusion can last as long as 10 or 15 minutes sometimes. Even when my communication abilities return to the point where I can talk and hear others, it's a few minutes before I can make sense of the words. All in all, from the point to where I have a seizure to the point where I am aware of myself, my surroundings and am able to be self sufficient is on average 10 minutes. And I now have started having a seizure the week before my period and the week after my period.
