- Seizure Background
- In the past 4 years I have 8 grand mal and I am aware of a couple partial but the number could be higher. Most of the time I am alone when I have them, so I had 3 before we actually figured out what is was. If I have one during the day I get an aura, so I have a brief warning. In the other words my vision gets really jacked up. However most of the time it happens at night so I can't tell that well. Before I have one I get really tired, but I have fatigue so I don't know if it is just normal exhaustion or if it seizure related. That's usually my only indication. Before I got on medication it usually took me about 30 minutes before I was comprehensive again. I have had two while rollerblading (that really hurts). If I am in my own house I can usually come back faster than if I am in an unfamiliar place. Now that I am on medication I come back faster than I used too. My subconscious normally knows whats going on now but if I try to focus before I am completely back I won't be able to remember anything. After a seizure I am really tired, I look like someone woke me up from a dead sleep or how you look when you have the flu. I have a really bad migraine and am really nauseous. Taking a shower helps, of course I have to hang a towel over the light scones to darken the room enough as to not agitate my migraine. The shower cuts down my migraine and my nausea but I will still have the effects for a couple days. I am typically abnormally tired for a few days. I have really tight muscles for a week before they loosen up. They aren't too bad if I am laying down when I have them, but if I am rollerblading when I have one every muscle in body is tight for about a month. Doctors still don't know what started it. I had the first on when I was 19. It's amazing how little people know about what to do when someone around them is having a seizure. On the bright side my dog gets really protective and won't leave my side for a couple days and she's 120 pounds so I feel safe with her.
