- Seizure Background
- My experience with Epilepsy started with my oldest daughter. Epilepsy runs in my ex-husband's family. When Tina was 6 years old, I started to notice seizures. At that time, she was put on Dilatin and Phenobarbital. Then she was put on Depakote. Her seizures were under control until she pretented to take her medication. When we found out that she was not taking her medication, I asked her why and she said that she wanted to be like other kids. I explained to her that she was like other kids and having seizures was nothing to be ashamed of. She started taking her medication again and we did not see any seizures until puberty. Once again her medications were changed. The seizures were under control until she reached high school and she started having breakthrough seizures. As an adult, her seizures came more frequent and worsened. Her neurologist sent her to a psycharist. They found nothing wrong with her. The neurologist continously changed medications and added medications. She finally became seizure free on August 3, 2006 when she died in her sleep from a seizure. My husband and I have adopted her daughter, who now has seizures. My hope is that someday they will come up with a cure for Epilepsy.
