    Seizure Background
I am the parent of a young adult (19) female diagnosed pre-term with hydrocephalus; she was then diagnosed with epilepsy at 15 months after a seizure through the night, of which I was unaware, left her with right-side hemiplaegia and learning difficulties. The seizure came shortly after an MMR vaccination and while I know there is no way to prove it, I believe that caused the initial seizure as she had a severe rash/reaction to her first booster in the UK and I refused the second booster course. Up to the age of 15 months she had met her developmental milestones as 'normal', but is now attending an SEN school in the UK. In recent months, after a break of almost 10 years - 4 years without medication, epileptic seizures have recurred and my daughter is now on LAMICTAL dispersible tablets - 100mg x 2 daily. The new dosage is apparently being tolerated well but my daughter has suffered with a debilitating cough that has resulted in vomiting. While researching LAMOTRIGINE/LAMICTAL as a new medication (formerly on Tegretol/Epilim at different ages) I discovered that sore throats/coughs were related although I was advised to the contrary until I personally showed a web-site to so-called professionals. While one doctor is now considering changing medications, I have asked for a period of one month to monitor the cough, which is now reducing, as at the time of seizures (in school) a paramedic performed a failed intubation while my daughter was on her stomach (?) and may well have caused irritation/damage to her throat at this time. I would prefer to determine whether the throat is damaged before changing medications, but no-one seems interested in that theory. I know it would involve some personal invasion for my daughter to have another tube/camera stuck down her throat, but if it would determine the issue of damage (or not) it would be productive.
