Ugh…had a seizure on November 10th. I have had diminished hearing for a long time. Increased my Dilantin, had to dial it back, now I have tinnitus. I hear it all the time, will it calm down, or am I stuck with it? On Dilantin for over four decades now. I am trying to get a referral to a neurologist. I haven’t seen one in quite awhile. My PCP said I might need to switch medication.

My father (no epilepsy) has suffered with tinnitus for decades. In his case, it's pretty highly correlated with his high blood pressure and eating spicy foods. If I remember correctly, he said magnesium supplements helped a little bit (for him).

Then again, my wife had all sorts of wonky problems when she started having problems with her Dilantin tolerance so checking your blood work is probably a good idea.

Thanks for your reply! Bloodwork is next week. I’ll see what the neurologist says about the Dilantin as soon as I get a referral.

Hi Gigi,

I've had problems with my one ear and my hearing got bad so I went to see a ear specialist who found out that
wax had built up in my right ear because the ear canal got so small after I had brain surgery. He told me to take
hot soapy water and put it in my ear and that helped me a lot I was also told to pour hydrogen peroxide in my ear
and lay on my side for a few minutes until I no longer heard any crackling noise and then flush my ear out with hot
water and that worked great. My advice to you is to see a ear specialist because maybe you have the same problem
as I did and the Dr. may just need to flush out your ear. I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Sue

Thank you so much for your response! I hadn’t even thought about that possibility. I will definitely look into that.
God bless you as well!
