Your very welcome to C.W.E that is a long time to be on lamotrigine so maybe your body was getting a bit to used to it. Sounds like you are not that long on the carbamazepine, the thing is as you know each of us are different and what effects you might not effect me or I might get over the side effects quicker. But in saying that you need to give the carbamazepine time to go around your body and then you might see the side effects go slowly, I usually give mine about a month to see how things are but after that if the side effects are still there its time to go back and see the doctor and tell him about the side effects and that you are not happy with it.There is no one drug that suits everybody so I am sorry to say its a case of trial and error with them.

HI
thanks Yeah its been about 6 weeks or so but i still get headaches all day, nausea weight gain and joint pains

The weight gain can be a problem, are the headaches getting any better. If not its time to go back and see you doctor.

I was on that aka tegretol and looks like I'll be back on it soon after having a seizure on friday, years ago the lower doses weren't working as I was still having my tonic clonics so they upped the dose and I was fine. Might just be that with you too.

Hi
no the headaches are pretty constant there are some days when i`m OK which i don`t understand Thanks

The tegratill made me feel awful,I been on lamotrgine 20yrs no anxiety attacks related to that but do have them

Tegretol is a wonder drug for some people and for others it is a living hell. It was the first AED I was prescribed and I am one of the people who does not do well with it. Nausea, headaches, unable to think. It was horrible.

If it doesn't work for you, you need to speak up and say so. There are lot of other options to try.

why does every think Carbamazepine/Tegretol same?

I have to have name brand last time I was in hospital was given generic seizures went through roof.I didn't pay pat of my bill they said I owed for the meds either insurance wouldn't pay it.

i have took tegretol [ carabamazepine] for 56 years and havent hade a problem.but im finding out it has the same side affect for long term use as dilantin witch is causing me serious problems with my brain. it doesnt affect everyone who uses it.its causing me dizziness, gait problems, acheness in the head etc.dont want to bore you with all the symptoms. check with your dr. if you want more info from me contact me

It came out it in 1975 Tegretol it has been out 40 years it came out in 1975 I went on when it came out.Generics there is a slight difference and they send my seizures through the roof

You seem to think I'm an idiot when it comes to meds ask your neuro everyone is different at being controlled I'm refractory do you know what that means?

no im not saying your an idiot and dont know where your getting that at . tegretol has the same side affects as dilantin. im getting brain damage from dilantin. so if tegretol has the same side affects as dilantin maybe you should be concerned about it to. you sound like a know -it- all.

hi.
sorry about getting started on the wrong foot . what im trying to say is ive been taking dilantin for 56 years . things have been great. no side affects for me. but now it causing me problems, gait, dizziness, walking. its done damage in the cerebar & cereblum [parts of the brain].i have found out through drugs.com that tegretol has the same side affects as dilantin.i also take tegretol and asked my neu dr about it . you right about it not affecting everyone just like dilantin. but the dilantin has affected me. im on a new med. to replace dilantin so it doesnt do any more damage.its working out great for me. ive also been told by 2 nuo drs. that ill never be able to work again. didnt want to hear that at my age. still in good shape to work. hope we got that cleared up

why does the generic send my sz's through the roof than?
Since you think you know it all because there is a slight difference in the makeup of the brand name and the over prized generic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

good question. usally generic cost less but still have the same ingredent in it,

I was originally on Dilantin years ago. After some side effects I switched to carbamazepine. Everything seemed to be working good and then the therapeutic levels slowly dropped and my electrolytes (sodium) started to decline as well. According to my neurologist it is a known side effect. That is when I switched to lamotrigine.

i switched from dilantin to trokendi xr 200 mg cause dilantin caused me to have cerebeller ataxia. i am still taking carbamazepine with no side affects.dilantin has the side affect of causing cerebeller ataxia but doesnt affect everyone. trokendi doesnt have the side affect dilantin has to cause ataxia

Hi, I take lamotrigine for my complex partial epilepsy and have been ok with it up to now. However my GP prescribed carbamazepine for my trigeminal neuralgia that I have suffered from for many years now. Could anyone tell me if I can take the odd carbamazepine along with the lamotrigine? My GP hopefully knows that I am already on lamotrigine - although he didn't prescribe it, my specialist neurologist did.
