Hi all,
I've been luring around for a couple of days and thought I'd finally say hi.
My partner was diagnosed with left frontal temporal lobe epilepsy (head injury related) about 4 years ago. Since then he has been on just about every type of medication with little to no improvement, and if anything his seizures have increased since being on medication. He mostly experiences early morning absences which affect his speech and memory (also the medication affects both speech and memory too). Occassionally he has a fit first thing in the morning, which then causes confusion for the rest of the day.
He is currently taking Keppra and Zonegran - the zonegran seems to be the biggest culprit in his slurring speech.
We are now starting to consider alternative treatments & therapies as we both feel the medication has had too many negative side effects. I am reading "The challenge of Epilipsy" by Sally Fletcher, which is giving me plenty of hope that with various stress management techniques and dietary changes along with supplements we could hopefully (fingers crossed) at least reduze his seizures and hopefully reduce his medcation too.
My hope is that he can feel like himself again, regain his confidence and just be happy. I am determined that to help him through this and to find ways to improve his quality of life. I already have a large document in which I put all information that I think can help...Any input would be greatly appreciated. Especially if anybody here has tried Biofeedback/Neurofeedback?
I am learning so much about epilepsy, and think it's wonderful that there are these online support groups to help cope with this potentially debilitating condition.
