Hi our 5 year old daughter has just been diagnosed with seizures they started out as absence seizures and they started her on medication then about 2 weeks after starting the medication she had 2 were she convulsed the doctor increased her dosages of the medication so if anyone can help us understand what is going on and what we can do please let us know the doctor we are using now is not very helpful with answers to our questions and we have a appointment at the beginning of jan. with a specialist to hopefully learn more on what is going on with her.

Welcome to the forum!

I'm sorry your daughter and you are going through this. There are lots of parents in here, so you'll find company and support.

Again, welcome!

Hi 4mybaby, welcome to CWE!

Not everyone reacts the same to anti-seizure meds, and sometimes they can cause seizures. It sounds like this is what may have happened with the med your daughter was given. Is she still on the medication? How is she doing now? I hope you can see the specialist sooner, but either way, don't hesitate to keep looking until you find a pediatric neurologist who listens and whom you are confident in.

You may want to ask the specialist about trying a dietary approach. In particular, the Modified Atkins Diet has had a lot of success in treating children and adults with absence seizures. More info here: http://epilepsymoms.com/diet-relate...ad/atkins-seizures-guide-parents-parents.html

Best,
Nakamova

thank you both we think she might me photo sensitive also but the dr she is seeing now never said, she is still on the same meds but now takes it 3 times a day instead of 2. she has had 4 seizures in the past week thank you on the diet idea we will ask the specialist as soon as i can get her in to see her

I would ask her current doctor about tapering off the new medication -- it doesn't seem to be helping, and may be making things worse.

she was just diagnosed with it about a month ago and she is only on zarontin they just increased her dose from 5ml twice a day to 5ml three times aday and that was after she had her seizures where she convulsed and like i said we are new to this and dont understand everything and the dr we have now wont really explain it all to us so we will be going to a specialist in a month if not sooner
