wow I totally love your t-shirt,
i want one.
Thanks
I got both that shirt & another epilepsy shirt through an epilepsy organisation in Australia. http://www.epilepsy.org.au/buypurple

The other shirt says "Epilepsy [ep-il-ep-sy] ~ n. pl. Maximising the potential of one's brain: Using the brain to recharge the body. Powers gifted only to selected ninja's and/or warriors - s. The power to take on the world and succeed."

I got a phone call Yesterday from one of the people at the employment agency which help me find work. He wanted to past my Resume onto a freight company who were looking for an administration person. I said that was fine so the person at the employment agency hand delivered my Resume into the employer Yesterday.

The employer rang me this morning on my mobile phone but I didn't get the message until this afternoon because I was out of town most of the day & the small town I was in had crappy mobile phone reception. I spoke to the employer after I got home & we have arranged for me to have an interview on Friday at 2:00pm.

When I spoke to the employer on the phone I did tell him that I have epilepsy which was under control. I also told him that I do have an appt with my specialist at the epilepsy clinic (which is in the city & 3 -4 hour drive each way) on 25th March so if I were to get the position I would need that day of but it would only be the one day. The employer was fine about the epilepsy & that I'd need a day of in March. The employer said they are an equal opportunity employer & have other employees with different disabilities so my epilepsy & the fact I would need a day of in March to attend a drs appt wasn't an issue :).

I'm pretty excited about the interview & am sure I'll be nervous on the day of the interview.

YAY!! How exciting! ***fingers crossed***

I'm still twiddling my thumbs over here. I hope you get this one!! Good news, you have two days to prepare, so start flinging clothes and practicing lines!!

Hey that sounds for promising! Hope Friday's interview goes well.

Thank you everyone,
I rang my sister last night to tell her about the job I'm having the interview for & to get a couple of tips. My sister is in recruitment so has a fair bit of experience with interviews. She gave me a few tips on how I should answer certain questions & asked me what I was going to be wearing for the interview lol. I had actually already worked out what I was wearing & when I told my sister she agreed that would be fine lol.
I usually stuff up interviews because I get so nervous & told my sister I was sure I'd muck this interview up, she told me that I would be fine & its normal to be nervous at interviews.

I'm still twiddling my thumbs over here.
CB, I hope you will be able to find paid work soon.
I would love a paid job but I keep myself busy doing my voluntary work at the charity shop.

I had my interview at the transport place this afternoon & I think it went OK. I was interviewed by 2 people who were both really nice which made it easier & I felt less nervous. They are doing more interviews next Wednesday so I should know after next Wednesday if I got the position.

A couple of weeks ago I applied for an administration position at a disability place. I heard back from the contact person of the disability place Today & she explained they would be doing an information session next Wednesday night for applicants which I will be attending. From the way I understand it is that at the information night they will give applicants some questions to answer & then they will go from there who to interview.

You've got a lot of things happening on the job front CQ -- one of these opportunities is sure to pan out. Which job would you rather have?

I don't know if I will get either job Nak. If by some crazy chance I was successful for both positions then I would rather the job at the transport place which is where I had my interview yesterday. They seemed so nice & friendly & I dont think there would be alot of stress involved in the job as it was mainly data entry & filing.

The other position I applied for was as a receptionist at a disability organisation & reading through the information I got with the package it looked like it may be a little stressful but I will know more when I go to the info night on Wednesday.

I meant to mention, last year around October I had an interview at a place that did xrays, MRIs, CT scans etc for a receptionist position. I was told that they would be contacting the people they interviewed to let them know of the outcome. I never heard anything back & after about 2 weeks I figured I didnt get the job.
Well last week I was looking in the paper for jobs & saw that the place I had an interview for in October are redvertising the same position I had the interview for.
I decided not to reapply because they didn't have the decency to let me know that I was unsuccessful last time & I figured if I was unsuccessful with the interview the 1st time I wouldn't get another interview.

Oh CQ!! That's not fair! They should have had the decency to call you :( I hate being left hanging. Can't they assume that if you're applying for their position that you're looking for a job and might have other prospects?! The decent thing do to is call and say "I'm sorry we've hired someone else" or "I"m sorry we've decided not to hire you, good luck on your search"

Jerks.

When I went for that particular interview I had pretty much figured I'd mucked up the interview but I gave them 2 weeks & after the 2 weeks of not hearing anything I decided I didnt get the job.

When I was at the interview I had on Friday the man who interviewed me said that they'd be making their decision after their interviews on Wed & he would be in contact with the people they interviewed. I asked him if he'd be contacting the people who were unsuccessful for the job & he said of course he would, that would be just rude if he didn't let them know how they went.

On Thursday I heard back from the freight place that I had the interview at last week.
I was unsuccessful for that particular position this time but the man who I spoke to said both he & the lady who interviewed me were happy with how I went in the interview & it looks like they will keep me in mind for any other admin positions that might come up in their company. I would've liked to have gotten that job because it sounded like an interesting position with not to much stress but I am happy with the feedback about how I went in the interview.

I had to go to an information session on Wednesday night at a disability organisation which was for a receptionist job at their organisation. At the information session there was myself & 14 other candidates. The Human Resources Manager said they had a huge response to the position with over 100 people applying for the position & they narrowed it down to 15. The information night was to give the applicants an idea about the organisation & how they help people with disabilities & get us to do some activities which would help them narrow it even further to who they would interview.
The admin person whose old position we were going for was also at the information session & she said that the role is a really busy & ongoing. I am concerned this role will be to busy for me & may cause to much stress so I am not concerned if I dont get it.

I'm sorry you didn't get the job at the freight place CQ, but it sounds like you did everything right, and made good connections. And congrats for making the Final Fifteen for the receptionist job!

WOO!! 15 out of over 100, that's GREAT!!!

I was thinking about you today, I had another interview as well. I should know in a week or two about that one. And I'm 6 days out from another interview. Today's pays more (but still not a lot) and sounds like it would be more fun. We'll see.

Fingers crossed for us both!

Thanks Nak & CB :)

CB,
Good luck with your interviews, hope you get 1 of the jobs.

I'm happy to have gotten to the top 15 out of over 100 people. I never like to get to confident when applying for jobs & basically if I get to the next step (whether it be interview or the info session) then I am happy.
Getting great feedback from an interview is a bonus as I hate interviews, always get nervous so forget things & getting the job is the icing on the cake.

Last Friday I got a phone call from my employment consultant to let me know that they had a job come up for an administration position at a builders. The position was being looked after by a employment broker (they go out canvassing for the clients who are ready to work) in one of their other offices. My employment consultant thought the position would be perfect for me so wanted to pass my Resume onto the employment broker.

On Monday I got a phone call from the employment broker looking after the position to let me know they received my Resume from my employment consultant & think I would be perfect for the position so wanted to past my Resume onto the employer.

This afternoon I got a phone call from the employer to say they received my Resume & would like me to come for an interview. We agreed to meet up on Tuesday at 11:00am for an interview.

From the description that the employment broker gave me it sounds like basic admin duties which I know I can do so hopefully I will go well in the interview.

Nice one CQ,all the best and i hope your successful in getting the job, will be thinking off ya!

I just completed a five day training course for a get this..... voluntary job, and after telling the organisation all about my epilepsy, they were more than happy to give me a go.
I went along to do my accreditation at the end of it, I got all the questions right, after nearly eleven hours studying at home, trying to cram all that I had learned into my head. The two men looked at me, and I could tell something was wrong. They had e.mailed me with the date of my accreditation, and said they had "heard I managed to get through the course" I didn't like the sound of that. They had heard I'd had three seizures on the last day. (One Atonic, the others were Comp Partial). From there on, they just tried to put me off, I was so angry, ended up in tears, and told them to save their breath.
Here in the UK, there is still so much unbelievable prejudice towards disability of any nature, and I wasn't even going to be paid by the idiots, not that that's the point. I remain at home, going stir crazy, I've got an appointment next week with a local organisation who look after people with brain injury, I am hoping to work as a volunteer for them, a lot more rewarding I hope than this other one.
We have all just got to keep trying, talking, educating the public, there are times I feel like giving up, but for the sake of those following along behind me, I just can't!!

Best Wishes
X
