I am usualy nervous when i have a job interview & do doubt myself alot. I have admin experience in both paid & voluntary work.
I havent had many paid jobs so do sometimes worry how i would go in the 'real world' worrying i will stuff up.
I emailed my neuropsych the other day about how i was waiting to hear if i got an interview & how i worry about working.
She told me to try not to doubt myself & if i managed to work with my old boss (i used to work for a chiropractor who was a nice person but he was extremely
pedantic, hard to work for & i was always stressed) i can manage anything.

My neuropsych knew how much stress I was under when I was working for my old boss but I wouldn't give in (I ended up leaving after the stress affected my health) so when I read her comment about my old boss it put a :) on my face lmao.

I just completed a five day training course for a get this..... voluntary job, and after telling the organisation all about my epilepsy, they were more than happy to give me a go.
I went along to do my accreditation at the end of it, I got all the questions right, after nearly eleven hours studying at home, trying to cram all that I had learned into my head. The two men looked at me, and I could tell something was wrong. They had e.mailed me with the date of my accreditation, and said they had "heard I managed to get through the course" I didn't like the sound of that. They had heard I'd had three seizures on the last day. (One Atonic, the others were Comp Partial). From there on, they just tried to put me off, I was so angry, ended up in tears, and told them to save their breath.
Here in the UK, there is still so much unbelievable prejudice towards disability of any nature, and I wasn't even going to be paid by the idiots, not that that's the point. I remain at home, going stir crazy, I've got an appointment next week with a local organisation who look after people with brain injury, I am hoping to work as a volunteer for them, a lot more rewarding I hope than this other one.
We have all just got to keep trying, talking, educating the public, there are times I feel like giving up, but for the sake of those following along behind me, I just can't!!

Best Wishes
X
Elaine,
Good luck with the appt next week.

I haven't had much luck with paid work, I have had the odd job but it has usually only been causal or part time.

To keep my skills up I do alot of voluntary work, the place I am volunteering at the moment is for a charity organisation that has an op shop (chairty shop) & a welfare section that helps people in need. I don't have much to do with the welfare side as I work in the charity shop part, mainly doing the admin work but I do also help in other parts of the shop when needed. I've been volunteering at the charity shop on & of for the last 9 years (I had time of when I had paid work & my surgery).

My boss at the charity shop has always known about my epilepsy & has even witnessed me have quite a few auras/complex partials seizures.
When he witnessed a seizure he was a little concerned but he got used to them & knew what to look for. He has never been concerned about my epilepsy & treats me the same as he does any other volunteer.

Haha looks like you have an honest neuro as well as one with a sense off humour!!! Not a lot off people can say that. Im the same as you about getting nervous and self doubting. But i think most people would say the same if they were honest.I think if you take the neuros adviceyou should do just fine and the fact you have experience can only be a plus in your favour.

Now give me that nueros number and he/she is as good as you say,i might move to where it suns, instead off living in the wind and rain.:)

Good luck.

Crash,
it was my Neuropsych (neuropsychologist) who said the comment about my boss not my neuro lol. I email my epilepsy nurse & neuropsychologist on a regular basis with updates or if I am over thinking things. I think they are great, very patient & help put things in perspective for me.

I have 2 neuros (1 in my home town & 1 at the epilepsy clinic) & they are both really nice. I don't see my local neuro very often now because Ive been under the care of the neurologist & specialists at the epilepsy clinic since my surgery & pre surgery tests. I do like both my neuros but out of the 2 like the 1 at the clinic a little bit better because he is so nice plus has a cool sense of humor.

When I went to the epilepsy clinic in September last year for my 18 month checkup I was extremely stressed as it was during the time i was working for the chiropractor & having some issues. I spoke to my neuropsych 1st then I saw the neurologist but the neurospych had updated the neurologist on how things were. When the neurologist called me in the 1st thing he said was 'I spoke to Marie (neuropsych) & she tells me you are working for a fruitcake'. I was pretty stressed out but that made me laugh lmao. Then I was telling him about the issues i was having with my old boss (not just work related but also with my epilepsy) & the neuro said' pity you cant just tell your boss to FO (he was nice & didn't say the full word but was still funny).'

Are you working soon, CQ? I've got a little lost lol :)
Sorry Nick,

Im not currently doing any paid work at the moment just do voluntary work.
Tomorrow I am going for an interview for a paid job which is an admin position at a builder.

I used to do some paid casual work for a chiropractor from 2008 - 2012. At 1st it was just a bit of work every so often when his other assistant was away.
In May last year the chiropractor rang me to say his other assistant had left & asked if i could help out for a little while. I was only meant to help out for a couple of weeks until he found someone else but he stuffed around finding someone that I ended up being there for 5 months. In the end the job was causing me stress & the stress affected my health.

What I was talking about in my last post was how when Is aw my neurologist in September last year I was still working at teh chiropractor & my neuro was really funny about his reaction to my old boss.

Hope that makes more sense :)

Also I did start this thread back in February when I went for another job but figured its easier to just repost in here when I have other interviews.

I just like confusing people :pfft:

I've caught up.. thank you, CQ - the update being good.
I hope you get on fine today:)

Thanks Nick,
Its still only Monday night here so my interview is Tomorrow morning.
My sister is supposed to be ringing me later with interview tips.

I got a phone call from the employment broker (person who has been looking after the position) Today to say he spoke to the employer & found out I had an interview. He wanted to wish me luck & see if I needed anything (eg a lift). When I spoke to him last Monday he had told me the employer knew they were a disability organisation so had asked if I would give him permission to tell the employer about my epilepsy. I told him that was fine as long as the employer was aware that my seizures are under control & I wont have TC seizures. When I spoke to the broker Today I asked if the employer knew about my epilepsy & he said yes & they have no concerns about it, so that's one less thing to worry about.

I'll update everyone on how it goes.
