hi,

I've had epilepsy for about 20 years and in that time i've been having these moments that I remember stuff from my past and stop what I am doing and get a weird sensation it last about 30 seconds to a minute, I haven't told my doctor because I didn't think it would be related to the epilepsy (me being an idiot), I originally searched the net to find out if taking power naps would help my memory and cognitive side and very tired all the time (I take latimatige 250mg a day, 2000mg keppra a day, 10mg frism a day) when I was reading info on power naps I clicked on small partial seizures and was reading the symptoms and thought WTF, they rarely come.

I don't know what to do, see my doctor, I know I'll have to deal with them but now knowing what they are

source: wikipedia (so maybe I'm wrong)

Hi benjw.

It might be good to let your dr/neurologist know about these sensations next time you see him. By telling the dr about these sensatiosn he/she should be able to let you know if they are seizures or not & it can help them treat your epilepsy better.

My main seizures were simple/complex partials, we had trouble getting them under control so I had brain surgery on my left temporal lobe in March 2011.
Since the surgery I have been seizure free but in September 2012 I had a funny feeling where my head felt strange (it was hard to describe the feeling I knew it wasn't normal) & when I went to speak to my Mum I was a little tongue tied. All up the feeling only lasted about 1 minute. I was due to go see my neurologist/neuropsychologist for a follow up appt just after I had this funny feeling so I mentioned it to them when I saw them.
They both told me that the funny feeling I had wasn't a seizure but my brains way of dealing with stress (at the time I was doing casual work but it was causing me alot of stress, even my specialists could see how stressed I was).

I still have these funny feelings every now & again where either my head will feel strange or I'll hear a weird noise but it usually only lasts short time (usually 1 -2 mins) & I can still do things while I feel this way (eg work, talk). I notice the funny feelings do happen more when I am stressed or nervous about something.

the feeling is hard to describe, thanks for the reply, I was on a list to have an eeg, but that was 2 years ago then my main dr said they only do them before an operation

Time to find a new doctor, then, if he told you that. The objective of having an EEG is to diagnose whether you have Epilepsy because it records the electrical activity of the brain. It could show whether you're having "spike brain waves", indicating whether you're having seizures or not, so it is important to have an EEG done to know what is going on in one's head.

I know what you mean. My auras (simple partials) were usually a strange dream which would appear in my head then I would get a funny feeling & sometimes just feel bit strange. I could never describe the dream I had because I could only ever remember what it was about at teh beginning of the aura.

:agree: with Cint,
Time to find a new neurologist or an epiologist who can help you.
Your other dr was wrong about the eeg only being done before an operation because as Cint said eegs are very important & can help with an epilepsy disagnosis.
When a person is suspected of having seizures then usually an EEG or MRI might be done.
