I've actually booked in to see a dietician next month. He's been highly recommended and treats a lot of people with chronic illness. I'm hoping that will help, not just for weight loss but for wellness and my immune system. Thanks for the suggestion

Juzzyk,

I've also seen a dietician as well as a endocrinologist. But I also have diabetes, so I closely monitor my carbs as well. Sometimes the different foods and even herbs, pills, etc. can alter one's glucose levels. I can't take any of those OTC weight loss pills because they alter my glucose level. And sometimes having a low glucose level can bring on a seizure for me as well.

Thanks for the link, Cint. Yes, the MAD does have quite a track record as being the more "user friendly" version of the Ketogenic diet.

The powder didn't cause a seizure for me. It is likely that because HCA is known to be in the fruit, that anything toxic would have probably been reported. Id be more cautious about herbal extracts especially those with concentrated amounts caffeine. Try raspberry ketones, garcinia and coconut oil among other things.. I did notice a slight lift in mood with garcinia. One dose every morning or before excessive should be good. 300MG 60%HCA worked for garcinia "Four Realms" and its cheap. You will need to stick with it to see results. Having calorie burners and increasing crap food intake will make you feel worse.

Hey katijoy, welcome to CWE!

I'm sorry to hear that you had a breakthrough seizure. I think that you may be right that the Garcinia Cambogia is the culprit. While limited testing has turned up relatively mild side effects -- headache, dizziness, dry mouth, nausea and diarrhea -- there have also been reports of liver problems, seizures, and cardiovascular problems linked to diet supplements that contain hydroxycitric acid (the main ingredient in Garcinia Cambogia). See: http://goaskalice.columbia.edu/weight-loss-products-containing-hydroxy-citric-acid-safe

Supplements of all kinds can be risky because they are unregulated and poorly tested. Sometimes they don't even contain any of the labeled ingredient and/or may contain unlisted ingredients that can be problematic. See http://www.livescience.com/28736-dietary-supplements-recall.html and http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/...-targets-supplements-at-major-retailers/?_r=0 Garcinia Cambogia in particular has been marketed through a scam: http://www.womenshealthmag.com/african-mango-diet-pills-womens-health

So... you may have reacted to something in the Garcinia Cambogia. Or, you may have reacted to something labeled Garcinia Cambogia. Either way, it sounds like you should play it safe and avoid using it in the future.
I was taking 2mg of klonipin every night to help me sleep. My neuro wants me to cut my dose or quit if I can, very slowly. I found blue lotus allows me to sleep without klonipin or to get by on 1 mg most nights,\. Some nights I know I could sleep 2 nights in a row without the klonipin but I take at least 1mg every 2 days.

My doctor checked on blue lotus and said to keep takig it unless she said to stop. She was going to do some more research on the blue lotus and another supplement, kratom.

She is very into natural medicine and always tries natural whenever possible.

I am afraid of Garcinia Cambogia though.
