I read a book called "Living Well with Epilepsy" which I found to be really interesting. It's by a neurologist with a PhD in his field and he explains all that you should know with living with epilepsy and seizure disorders.
He explains how the brain works, each part of the brain, how it relates when involved with seizure disorder or epilepsy. Also I found it interesting how medications work as far as MOAs and how we respond to medications. The book is divided up into chapters and the table of contents allows you to find the perfect section to read. I read the whole book and even though I've had epilepsy from age 6, there were still things I never knew. One things that stuck out to me was how complex partial seizures can be just as intense as a generalized seizure even thought we don't move much. The fact that the seizure is in one or two places and sometimes spreads can cause such intense feelings and changes in how we feel, emotions, and perceptions. There are several case studies which are sometimes rare cases but show us how unique each person's seizures can be from the next person's seizures.
In late chapters he shares with us how we can modify our lifestyles and create a safe environment to live in, work in, and how to better live with epilepsy. I feel that everyone with epilepsy whether new to it or not should read this book.
The author is Carl W. Brazil and I find he has a great knowledge of epilepsy and seizure disorders.

Take care and be safe everyone-

:agree:

Thanks for the info. Crystal :e:

my favorite so far is "Seizures and Epilepsy in Childhood. A guide for parents" it is from john m freeman, MD
Eileen P G Vining, MD
Diana J Pillas.

A Johns Hopkins press health book.
It is very informative and used words that people can actually understand.

My favorite is Treating Epilepsy Naturally. It helped to answer a lot of my questions and shared a lot of information that has never been shared with us by any of the neurologists I've talked to. I believe this book is invaluable to anyone living with epilepsy or caring for someone with epilepsy.

are found in this library, and 4 of them are my all
time favorites:

  • 41XBY8KBTWL._SL125_.jpg

Seized: Temporal Lobe Epilepsy as a Medical, Historical, and Artistic Phenomenon
By Eve LaPlante (This Out of Print has returned back to life again; and is one of the most interesting and yet controversial book and every time one reads it you find something new that you didn't notice before)
From Cambridge University Press - from our own Dr. Martha Morrell
  • 51dpyIiUArL._SL125_.jpg

Treating Epilepsy Naturally : A Guide to Alternative and Adjunct Therapies
By Patricia Murphy (Patricia A. Murphy, former vice president of the Epilepsy Advocacy Council of Long Island, currently edits the Epilepsy Wellness Newsletter, a publication providing alternative health information for people with seizure disorders.)
  • 51vjawnbNAL._SL125_.jpg

Epilepsy: A Cleveland Clinic Guide By Elaine Wyllie (Contains a lot of basic information, wonderful to have to answer a lot of questions that people ask and easy to remember)

I have many more, but they are quite expensive!

I refuse to read books about epilepsy when the author never had a seizure.

Have you read Treating Epilepsy Naturally? The author shares her story of living with epilepsy, treating with traditional medications, and then the success she found with moving over to natural alternatives.

exactly what are natural alternatives.
Some herbs you smoke?

Belinda,

No, she does not talk about smoking herbs. The woman altered her diet first and saw tremendous improvement. She also started neurofeedback, which has a great success record. Her book covers many alternative methods such as vitamin supplementation, massage therapy, neurofeedback, diet/nutrition, and many others.

I also apply a few of these methods with my 7 year old son and we are able to control his seizures without meds. The book is excellent.
