Has anyone gone though the trial I went through when I was first referred to a consultant, whom I sat down with for the best part of 2 mins, me explaining was happening to me (simple partial/complex), and was sent away having been told it's not epilepsy.
After being told by my gp what it COULD be, I did the research I could, and almost diagnosed myself!.

Back I went to my GP, and was referred to a different hospital, after having seen another Neurologist, a thorough discussion and THEN being told I had epilepsy.

I sometimes wish I could remember what the first consultants name was, I could try getting in touch with him, tell him he's not fit for purpose to be a consultant, and should give up his day job!.

Misdiagnosis is one of the most frustrating things in medicine in general. It's one thing if a disorder or disease shares multiple symptoms with many other disorders (which can sometimes happen with epilepsy). It's another thing altogether if the misdiagnosis is the result of a specialist who is incompetent, ignorant, or otherwise unable to truly listen to a patient.
I found a few threads on the topic in the CWE archives:

Hi Itr786,

Many yrs. ago my Dr. thought I was faking seizures to get out of doing school work and other things but then I saw an Epileptologist who did more detailed testing on me and they found I was having seizures all along, the problem was the other Dr. didn't do the detailed testing and they couldn't find the extra brain damage I had because it was in so deep in my brain but my Epileptologist found it all doing a spect and Pet scan along with a wada test. I wish you only the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Better way contact hospital you went to first contact the secretaries that work within in Niro department...
Unfortunately I had very similar experience 30years ago doc thought I i was mentally ill requested no test etc. 2 mins of patronising no eye contact....when I finally got to right hospital and correct tests done I also wrote first doctor said much samething he was not fit for purpose.A few doctors agreed with me but were not prepared to go to court and say it.i had to weigh it up I could sued but with epilepsy how do you prove if started when you saw first doctorI nhs and would been up against some health service top legal brains and as I just had baby at time my brain was like dog food I did not stand a chance....I had years of suffering I felt like taking a gun to that doctors head also found out he had more patients than any other doctor who committed suicide.
I hope everything works out ok for you and this doctor is made to learn how to listen to people it is possible he been good doctor for other people. The systems both here in uk and States is lot to be desired at times....In America money talks with health matters in uk you up against health authorities rather than doctors they well used to getting letters telling them they crap unless it a slam dunk we don’t get far...Be 100% sure you can prove it before you put in writing..But that just my experience

I can recall that, too--people thinking I was lying or faking things when a simple partial occurred just to get out of school or certain classes. It wasn't until I had a simple partial during the EEG that they realized I wasn't faking things, & what those "weird feeling" were.
