This morning I experienced something that has happened at least twice before in the last two months. I assumed they had been non-epileptic- seizures but today I was here at home alone.
I was sitting here doing deep massage and exercise on my severely injured finger. I had been doing that for quite a while then all of a sudden, totally conscious, I started uncontrollably, wildly flailing around .
It kept up for about 1/2 minute and then ended. There was a definite post-ic-tal faze ,taking time before I could really move and shake it off. It is the first time I can ever remember biting my tongue.
Just a half hour or so before this I experienced what I have always categorized as severe side effect from my meds eg. Vimpat without having eaten something substantial or taking my neurontin too close together to my Vimpat. Neither had been done this morning, I am also on Lamictal. It has happened several times before.
The thing that happens is my vision goes very blurry, if I stand up and try to walk I start to be so off balance that I am headed toward a bad fall to the floor. I continue to have that balance problem until I sit or lye down for an hour or more.
I have been having an increase in complex partial seizures. Two of which there were definite triggers.
I was told I had a seizure at my son's wedding. I was standing with a few people in an udjoining room with just a few people just before my son escorted me down the isle as the first part of the service.
It took a while to get someone to tell m what happened. Finally after he service the minister told me "You went stiff but it was o.k. Someone caught you before you hit the floor." It could have been a grand mal I don't know.
What is going on? Expecially the one like this morning with the concious violent flaling and definate post ic tal. lonnie

It does sound like a kind of seizure -- with myoclonic jerking perhaps -- and something you should talk to your neurologist about. Clearly your meds aren't doing the trick, and need to be reevaluated.

I agree. I would def bring this to your neuro's attention. It sounds like a simple partial seizure. Youre consious through out them and aware of what is happening. I had simple partial seizures during my VEEG in march. I remember the feeling i had prior to the seizure, and then had jerking on my right side of my body, with alot of stiffening all over my body. I can recall the nurses being in the room, hearing them ask me questions. I had to wait til the seizure was over to answer them. But I remember everything during them.

My dr tried me on Vimpat with the Keppra, once I got done with the VEEG and it wasnt a good mix for me. I had lots of bad emotions, feeling depressed, just not caring anymore about anyone or anything. I was taken off of that medications, and he added the Lamictal with the Keppra, and that I had an allergic reaction with. Since May, Ive been only taking Keppra XR and so far so good.

Thank you. My neurologist takes calls at the end of the day. He said the wedding one was probably from stress and the flailing one non-epeptic seize and the balance was definitely the Vipat. He didn't want change any meds over the phone so see him in a month but if I had problems in the next two weeks call and he would get me in earlier. As it turns out the appointment I have next for him is2 weeks away. Thak you so much for your support. lonnie
