Strange, but all these meditative activities make me nervous, even slightly aggressive. I'm person who need real action to calm myself: running, basketball or swimming.

I've been doing YOGA for 15 minutes every day when I awake... Get this. It's the CD I got free with a McDonald's Adult Happy Meal!!! I don't even eat there usually, but I LOVE the CD. I also calm myself and stretch for a little while every night right before bed. I'm getting to where I'm not afraid to sleep anymore, and I'm NOT afraid to wake up in the morning. I now take my Pregnenolone with some Calcium and Magnesium chewables before bed. Then stretch and get into bed. All's well.

I also spoke with Dr. Donna Andrews, "Epilepsy Specialist" the other day and within a few minutes of our conversation, she suggested I take Pamprin (a PMS syndrome pill found over the counter) for 2 days, 4 days prior to my period. I counted on the calender and started the Pamprin that day. She explained that every month water builds up inside the brain and my menstrual cycle is my body's way of saying "I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!" and having a seizure. She added that she hadn't seized for 38 years! I'm certainly trying it out. I know there could be other triggers, but this is certainly worth looking into.
Do you still have that CD? I hardly ever go for fast food. If you still have it, what music is on it? Who wrote it? It sounds like it could be a worthwhile piece of music.

I am not a fan of McDonalds, yet when they had the movie offer, I specificly went there for the movie "Dances with Wolves". The other two were kiddie flix. The ran out of "Dances with Wolves" very fast, sold very few meals, and were stuck with a lot of kiddie flix.:woot:

I alo have panic disorder and obssesive compulsive disorder, all these thing did was make me jumpy and more aware of what was wrong or what could be wrong around me.

It is now Feb, 2008 and I have changed my strategy. This last set of six seizures made me realize that my electrolytes were low the previous day and since then, I've been drinking one Gatorade or some other electrolyte drink with less sugar every day. Last month, I started my period one week early, so the Pamprin thing was not do-able. After the last 6 seizures, I read a book called: "Yoga and Pilates". There are several sections in there about meditation, chakras, and exercises that will calm the mind and spirit. Wonder of wonders, it's helping... in conjunction with everything else I do. Every night I breathe and focus. I say, "Oooooohm I will be seizure free forever. Ohoooom I am seizure free forever." ect. There are various chakras and chants. I felt silly doing it at first, but now, I say, "If it makes you feel better, do it.'

chakras and musical scale

I was once told that there are notes for each of the chakras. Your base would be at the low note on the scale, while your highest chakra would be one octave higher. I think the theory is that each of the chakras vibrate at different frequencies, and therefore require different notes from lowest accending to highest.

I believe in music- it varies for anybody's taste...what ever works for you is your kind of music. I also believe in exercise. Both music and exercise are stress busters. It's wise that you drink the electrolytes. Ten years ago, I was on a weight loss program that emphasized drinking water. I think I drank too much water, and not enough electrolytes (or at least washed them out of my system). Seizures happened. It was not a pretty site. I exercised too much, too fast, and raised my metabolism too much. I lost a lot of weight, felt great, but the bottom dropped out.

Hopefully you'll find that right balance of electrolytes, sodium, potassium, and other nutrients that help control seizures.

My dog is my therapist.

Does it work?

I never tried meditation. I don't know if it works or helps. I don't know if it's worth trying.

I took a class on it. For people with dissabilities from a professor from Harvard. A couple of years ago. DSHS paid for it. I think my Dr. referred it for me. It just came to my door. They gave me a book . We shared our stories and beliefs. Meditated together. It has helped me and my son very much. Hawke , you can not know if something is going to help if you don't try. I know it sucks sometimes, but you have to step up anyway. Just to do it.

scared to try something new

I have the rottenist luck in trying any excersize program. I never stick with it unless I have fun.
I have tried meditation and my thoughts race too much.

I used to do Yoga....very relaxing....My hubby thought it was sissy..not "really exercise". So I had him do it with me one night. :roflmao:
He never said anything bad about yoga again. :)

Now, I don't really do anything.....except, at night when I'm stressed or can't fall asleep. I'll close my eyes and breathe in to the count of four, picturing the air I take in as light/energy that swirls around my brain, then down my back, and as I'm exhaling (again to the count of four)the energy goes out the bottoms of my feet. And I guess I occasionally meditate....if you can call it that. I'll lay down and just let my spirit dwell in the I AM. He/It in me and me in It/Him. Tends to help me relax, and sometimes feel like a kid again.

All that is meditation. Calming yourself. However you want to do it. It's good for your mind and whole body.Have you ever said to your
Dr. I stopped my seizures. Or in some way you were able to control them? I think its like that.
