Hey all, I am going in for an anterior left temporal lobectomy tomorrow morning. Surgeon has high hopes that I will be seizure free and there will be no language or memory issues. Just asking for all your positive thoughts, prayers, and good vibes!

Best of luck to you! I hope all goes well! You will be in my thoughts. Have lotsa fun in the hospital. :)

I agree with what arnie has said. You will be in my thoughts and prayers, best of luck tomorrow.

:woot:

awesome kmellen! i just had the same surg in august, with a few extras taken out; am in a high category of seizure-free for life. they did tell me to expect memory issues, and i do have them, but they're not significant enough to stop me from working, nor driving again woot woot!

am seizure-free 255 days today..... and will think of you all day tomorrow. you have so much to look forward to, counting each and every day! SO AWESOME!!!!!

:hugs:

Hopefully going home today, but my head still hurts and I have this amazing black eye from the surgery. I've been on so many different pain killers, muscle relaxers, and anti nausea meds it's not even funny. I do have a question for all of you.

After your surgery when you can finally open your eye from the blackhead, do you "see" things that you think are there right beside you, in front of you, or things running away when nothing has been there?

soooo good to hear from you!! and don't worry about the black eye, it's pretty much a guarantee after brain surg; i had one and face was so swollen, and everyone i've talked to on here did too. and the head will hurt for awhile, mild painkillers should be enough.
anti-nausea meds good!! i threw up for days and lost 15 pounds, had to stay five days longer than we thought. how's ur tummy? if it's not well it's likely the anaesthetics, and they'll be out of your system soon enough.

i didn't technically 'see' things, but it def took days for my head to calculate the space around me. biggest reason for that was the anaesthetics, from head to toe my body rejected them and by the time i got out of the ICU i felt a bit hallucinogenic. i wouldn't worry too much about it but do tell your doc, even if something seems insignificant tell them before you go, and if it's any type of concern they will likely keep you in.
the next two weeks is 24-hour care so you got someone who will be with you the whole time?

:hugs:

I'm glad you made it through OK! I have found that pain meds give me nausea that is worse then the pain itself. Even after surgeries. I will keep my fingers crossed for you that you have as good of results as our lovely and talented qtowngirl! She's an inspiration :)
Keep us posted!

Onward and upward!

Kmellen,
Am very glad that things went well for you! Hope that each day is better for ya than the day before. On the vision, or things you see, I didn't have what you do but for a couple years after my last surgery, there was this little critter living in the vision area that I lost. Never talked or anything like that, it was just there sometimes moving, sometimes just sitting there.

awww arn, thank you ;)

kmellen we really look forward to hearing from you! you can start counting your seizure-free days now! the day after you had your last seizure is day 1 - YAY!!!

Happy for you that the surgery went well. Will be thinking of you!

Glad the surgery went well.

When I had my surgery I was sick for at less the 1st week & didn't eat much at all when I was in hospital. While in hospital I was on a combo of pain killers/meds, from memory it was something for the bad headaches, something for the nausea, potassium tablets because my potasium levels were pretty low. I can't remember if I missed out on anything.

The black eye is normal & so is a little bit of swelling.
I had problem with both my eyes swelling up, 1st it was my left eye which started to swell day after the surgery, it was pretty swollen for a couple of days then my right eye started to swell up. The nurses put patches with little bit of witch hazel on them on the swollen eye, that did help a lot.
By the time I came out of hospital 5 days after surgery the swelling had gone from both eyes but I still had a bit of a bruise on them.

I don't think I had any issues with seeing things but I did have problems with hearing things. A week after the surgery I heard strange noises which lasted a couple of weeks & I was also sensitive to noise as everything sounded loud or echoed.

I look forward to reading how your recovery goes.

:agree: Happy your surgery went well.

I also had problems with headaches and hearing things after my surgery. I am still very sensitive to noises, 20 years after my brain surgery.

Finally home! Trying to find a comfortable position where I can sleep if I want, but also so I'm not laying flat to let all the blood flow go to my brain. Right where the stitches are hurts the most right now and I am still seeing thing. I'm hoping once I'm off these steroids and pain meds they will go away. I've been icing like crazy, hoping it helps with the pain. Thank you again everyone for all these happy thoughts and prayer, I really do appreciate it. Your happy thoughts and prayers went a long way for me. I love you all, especially since you understand what is going on. I will let you know again what's going on, trying to eat now and my jaw is sore. I swear talking makes it even worse. Thank you all again.

Does anyone have suggestions of how to keep yourself busy in 6 weeks? How to not lift anything more than 5lbs? I feel like I'm going to turn into a potato and do nothing. That is a big fear of mine!

You probably won't feel like doing much at all for at less the 1st few weeks so try not to overdo things & just take it easy.

When I had my surgery I spent 5 days in hospital then my Mum & I had to stay a week in the city until I had my 2 week checkup with the specialists.

When I was given the all clear to go home I stayed with my parents for about 4 weeks. I was still pretty tired for the 1st 2 -3 weeks so just took it easy, getting plenty of rest.
When I felt up to it I would go for a walk with my Dad & their dog, we started of with short walks around the block every few days. When I started to feel better I would walk a little bit further & just a little longer.

After about 4 weeks post surgery I started to get bored so sent my specialists an email to find out if I could help my Mum with a little housework.
I was told I could do smaller chores like dishes as long as I didn't over do it & if I felt tired to take a rest.

. I will let you know again what's going on, trying to eat now and my jaw is sore. I swear talking makes it even worse.
The sore jaw is a little annoying, I had a sore jaw for about 3 weeks post surgery which made it a little hard to eat. After I came out of hospital I joined my Mum where she had been staying which was accommodation for people who live out of town & have family members in hospital. The night I came out of hospital my Mum & I were eating dinner & sitting at the table with us was another lady who was staying at the same accomodation as us.
I was having trouble eating my food so the lady asked me why I was eating weirdly. I explained I had just had brain surgery so my jaw was a bit sore.
I wasn't really hiding my scar because the surgeon had told me to let the air get to it & not cover it to much so I'm sure it was obvious I just had surgery on my brain :pfft:.

CQ, don't you love when people ask the most obvious questions?!
I'm surprisingly feeling okay, but I am on a lot of different pain meds and anti nausea meds right now. I am one of those people who feels the need to be busy at all times. Right now my boyfriend is moving, and I can't help him; making me feel horrible. I was told that it would take more than 6 weeks to fully recover since I was awake for the whole procedure. I can barely watch tv since putting my glasses on hurts :/
