Wow. I can't even imagine being a parent and having to make that kind of decision for my child. How incredibly difficult. I'm so glad the little guy is doing okay now.

We do have several cases of succesful hemispherectomies in our Dutch forum support group, children with severe epilepsy syndromes such as Infantile spasms, who are seizure free after this surgery. It's a treatment which is very succesful in general and - hard to believe - not as risky as one would think. Two new operations are sceduled for January for a boy and a girl in our group. Not many of our kids do get this chance. The epilepsy need to be in just one hemispere and has to start in a part of the brain which can be operated without causing more damage. A WADA-test and sometimes an open brain EEG is needed.
