    Seizure Background
On Feb. 12 2013 I had been on Prednisone (a steroid medication for asthma and pneumonia) for four days. That morning I took my last dose and a few hours later I felt very, very strange. It felt like my head was splitting open and I started to scream. The left side of my body became numb and the rest is fuzzy. I thought I was going to die. My boyfriend rushed me to the ER and I was diagnosed with a migraine. Two days later after several more "episodes" and not sleeping, I was diagnosed with Steroid Psychosis. Six weeks went by with several ER visits, multiple seizures a day, and I was unable to sleep or eat. I was also hallucinating, had manic behavior, and paranoid delusions that went along with the temporary Steroid psychosis. I couldn't go outside or see certain bright lights. I went on anti-psychotics, which worked, plus 8 mg klonopin a day. The "Seizures" were called episodes or migraines. I then became depressed--went on anti-depressants which worked for mood but were terrible for my seizures. I had to continue to dope myself on klonopin and ativan in order to do ANYTHING. Also, by this time I had to lose my job as an assistant editor and also drop out of Grad school. The man I thought I would marry left me because he was so afraid of my condition. My life felt ruined. It wasn't until I left Kaiser (the institution that gave me the Prednisone) that I was diagnosed for Epilepsy and put on Depakote (this was in November of 2013!!). Kaiser said my episodes were psychogenic and that my reaction to Prednisone was caused by an "underlying and previous issue," of course which they couldn't define. Now I am unemployed, trying to get disability. I still have seizures and I've recently upped Depakote to 1500 mg a day, plus 2 mg of klonopin and sometimes ativan if I have twitches (I get tics on the left side of my body). Life is terrifying, but I move ahead one day at a time. I think I have been diagnosed with complex partial seizures, migraines, psychogenic seizures, bipolar disorder (as a result of the brain trauma), and major depression.
