Thank you so much for the message about my hair. I can say I sure feel better about it. I didnt know how I was going to feel with my hair shaved off. I sure did freak out and didnt look at myself for days. But finally I made it this far that I am so happy. It sure was worth shaving it off. It made a big change in my life. I am now waiting for my drs. to send a letter saying it is ok to get my license and I am going to go take the drivings class and get my permit. Yippeee. Depending on when I get that letter and take the classes. I plan to sign up for school. I am thinking to do Medical assistant, or X-ray technician. I will keep you posted on how everything goes. Take care of yourself.

Over the holidays I DID have lots of coffee, not much booze (except in my coffee), no candy and no over eating.

All the caffine with the added stress was a contributing factor.

I never even gave it a thought cuz coffee is a daily routine for me but I really went overboard this time cuz of the "Bailey's" in my coffee.

No change of anti-epileptic drugs or no colitis flare-up.
The aura did go away the next day and everything is fine now.

    Hi Randy

I hope the following helps. I have always said, and always will, that Epilepsy of any kind be it a Grand Mal, or simply an aura (more so an aura) is more likely to happen to me when I am sat around doing nothing have nothing to look forward to, to focus on, to challenge me. That is why I have always said, that I would never have a problem with driving, because I would be concentrating! I get really hacked off and prone to auras if I am bored basically, so I am glad to say, I am not the sort of person to sit still for very long, I am really not very good at being unemployed either, and being stuck at home alone on and off for the last 18 months has NOT been good for me, I am desperately trying to find work, not much about in the UK at the moment, but I will!
I bet you didn't have any type of problem E wise while you were with friends and family over Xmas eh? Because you were amongst people, chatting, laughing, dicussing stuff, using your brain, and generally losing yourself in everything that was going on, the worst thing for me would be "to go and lie down" that's probably when my problems would start, lying there thinking about things!

The way I look at the brain, is that it is a huge great sponge, absorbing and processing information from vision, hearing, taste, and smell sources around it, and the more information you can give it, the busier it is, when it doesn't have any info to process, it works on stuff from the past, the present, and that's when my problems used to start, I would get the taste, then the aura, then Secondary Generalised and I would be lying on the floor in tears, or lost in a world of yesterday memories, emotions, tastes and smells, terrifying! I'm sure you've been there hun? Let me know how your epilepsy transpires, I would love to know?

It's weird writing about my E as I have been free of it for over two months now, thank God above! But I still keep my mind occupied, and I still amd determined to complete my book and get it published, I so badly want to help not only others with this damned condition, but the great unwashed public to understand it more too!

As you can see from the number of excalamtion marks I have used, I am very passionate about educating others, and helping fellow E sufferer's to have a better quality of life , and to deal with their E more easily.

I hope you are ok and feeling better now, and that you are looking forward to a happy and succesful 2009? If you want a good laugh, have a look at The Creative Writing Page on CWE and read "Pelvic Floor", I hope it will put a smile on your face, I'd love to hear your comments on it?

I wish you all the very best my friend, I really do, I so know how you are feeling, and that is the wonderful thing about this website, we simply understand each other, and I have made some very special friends through the pages of CWE, you included!!! Please write back, I am alone all day today, I'll probably be cleaning, ironong, and digging the drive out of the snow.

Catch you later my friend, keep positive, and be happy?!

    Love & Best Wishes

Hi ~ This feels really weird to me.
I had an aura today, in fact, I'm having it right now.
I'm aware of what's going non around me but I can't respond.
(I can type though-but very slow)

I went out for breakfast with my family like I do every Sunday (nothing out of the ordinary) and when I got home I noticed that everything was (is) moving in slow motion and I feel light headed but what's really weird ~ I'm also having an outer body experience. It feels like I'm outside looking in at myself. I feel a headache comming.

My first granmal seizure was in 1979, then nothing 'til 2002, 2004 with lots of petit mals in between.
My wife says I should go and lay down.

Do you think it's because the stress of the holidays is over and the body is in more of a relaxed mode ~ the body's natural defenses are down, the epilepsy becomes more vulnarable?

    Hi Mate

Hope you had a great Xmas and New Year, it all seems so long ago now doesn't it? We had a great time down by the sea in Devon, a really beautful part of the UK. Now it's back to the real world, and I must carry on looking for the perfect job if it really exists!

I have just had dinner, and I am sat down with a nice glass of Shiraz (my one and only weakness) a good red wine!! Have you any weakness's? I really don't do anything else wrong!!!

I am still seizure free, I am so pleased, I really haven't had any problems since starting the Trileptal with the Keppra, I have to see my surgeon down in London next month, and I so want to shake his hand and thank him for sticking his hands into Laine's brains, and sorting me out, between the surgery and this wonderful drug, I am a new person, and all I need to make my life complete, is to a) finish writing my book, and get it published, and b) get the ideal job, abnd start earning some decent money, and get back into the real world again.

Let me know how you are doing over there in sunny Canada, I don't know if I told you or not, my Dad's partner Babs is from Hamilton Ontario, she lives down in Devon, but has a couple of places over there and has told me and my partner, that we are welcome to go over there any time, that would be wicked! I have cousins in Edmonton, Alberta, but I have never been over. Watch this space eh?

Keep in touch, let me know how your Xmas went, and I look foward to hearing from you soon! I hope you are ok health wise?

I have no plans for Christmas ~ just quiet at home with my 2 adult kids.

Hi Elaine , Merry christmas and a happy new year to you and your family as well.
Glad to hear you cleared the course ! kudos. Have been off CWE myself for a while because of exams in january. Christmas in India is pretty low key , since there aren't many christians around. But the few that are here celebrate it with great pomp. I find myself making excuses to go to my buddy Shaun (fellow doc) 's house to sample his mum's plum cake and marzipan. Here's hoping you have a great holiday season and face the new year with joy , enthusiasm and no seizures !

    How are you Elaine,

I'm so sorry I've neglected to write for so long. I have been in a health pickle (meaning everything with my health has been sour). Anyway, I'm trying to catch up with everyone. I do hope all is well.

    Many, many hugs from afar.
-Julie (I'm proud to report I haven't sat in my breakfast cereal in several months!)

    Lady Elaine:
The poem you wrote for your stepfather is beautiful. It had to be extra difficult for you to write it as you thought of your mum. You are so talented! Sincerely, Josette
