    Seizure Background
1989 I suffered my first grand mal seizure. After 3 days in the hospital, an MRI + CT Scan, it was determined that I have "abnormal brainwaves" or myoclonic juvenile epilepsy. I was treated for five years with phenobarbital only - it kept them at bay. The seizures began to increase in the mid-90's, and I was put on Dilantin (allergic reaction - rash) Depakote (gained 20 lbs) Keppra then finally Lamictal/Lamotrigine. Which seems to work okay. but Dr wants to add Depakote to the cocktail. I'm resisting. He also had me try Melatonin - a very bad reaction. Today I read "lead" can cause them...and the lipstick brand I've been using is high on the lead list. Now I'm totally confused. I came upon the Coping With Epilepsy Forum just today (Feb 16 2012)
