    Seizure Background
Began having TC seizures 12 years ago. Drs are unsure of cause (could be the result of multiple head injuries during childhood or unknown virus just prior to seizure onset). Initially, seizure episodes occured several times a week; about 2 months after seizures started my speech was affected and I began stuttering quite badly (this occured after a seizure). I have NO warning that a seizure is going to occur so things got really yucky for awhile. Varius drug therapies were tried to get the seizures under control and speech therapy for the stutter. I have gone into SE twice. I got some seizure control with Tegretol...I was only having seizures about twice a month so the neurologist kept me on it for about 3 years; gradually increasing the dosage (I'm extremely drug sensitive and have multiple drug allergies) until he pushed it too far (1200 mg) and I had to stop taking it. He switched me to Trileptal and things got better again then he decided to add in Lamictal and it was like a miracle occurred. My seizures just kept decreazing and my stutter went away (now I only stutter after a seizure). I have gone as long as 18 mos without a seizure.

That was then, this is now...of course I've started having problems again. I've had two break-thru seizures within 4 mos of each other (the last one being a real doozy where I hit my head pretty badly). I started getting migraines on a daily basis and some other annoying neurologil problems. Had to have an MRI and EEG done again and fould out that my med levels are all too low. THe neuro added Topamax in on top of my other meds and the jury is out on whether I am going to be able to tolerate the side-effects or not. At least it is helping with the headaches.
