Advice needed

I was 16 years Med and seizure free up until 4 years ago when had seizure. I had 'MRI AND EEG and neurologist recommended lamotirgine but I did not go for it. However, I Have just had a follow up seizure 4 years on, so am considering just going on the lamotrigine. The gp now says there is a 9 month wait to see neurologist. My question is do you think the gp should be able to just prescribe the lamotrigine that the neurologist did 4 years ago. Otherwise I am Med free for 9 months and As I surf and am training for half iron man and could be massively at risk and may have to cut stuff out. Any advice? Also, if I did go private would any prescription be private therefore and cost more? Plus I could only afford one visit and not an EEG and 2 visits. Would a neurologist insist on additional EEG? Many thanks
Previous EEG came back normal but MRI showed some frontal lobe assymetry

You'd probably have to talk to your gp and get his opinion about going on the lamotrigine. He could say he'd do it or he might say he'd rather you see your neuro first since you've been seizure free for 4 years. He might not know if you need to be on the same dosage as you were before or something different. Sometimes drs able talk with other drs to find information out. This is all just a guess though.

I don't think there would be any change in cost no matter who prescribes the medicine, it's still the same medicine. I've had my gp prescribe something that a specialist has before and and the other way around and the cost was the same.

With lamotrigine, there are definitely things to be aware of in terms of dosing, ramp-up schedule, side effects, etc. If your GP is up-to-speed with seizure meds, and feels comfortable prescribing the Lamotrigine, you may be in luck; many GPs would rather defer to a specialist.

Thanks. She did prescribe it actually. So will stay on it until the 9 months or so for neuro appointment to come through
