I am curious to know how Nostalgic you all are? (in other words, how often do you think about the past)

With me, I didn't have a very good childhood. It sucked. My parents abused me, teachers didn't get me, I didn't have many friends- However, when ever I am in conversation with someone, I like to think back at the happy times (and some funny times too!)

I bring this up because in a conversation earlier, someone told me that I shouldn't dwell on the past, and just live in the present since you're only here once (which makes sense, you do only get one shot).

It's not like I hate the present. I just think the past was better. That's all

Curious on all your thoughts on this

In some ways, I agree with you. We came to the Chicago area when I was in 5th grade. During childhood, actually 6th-9th grades, I was bullied so much by kids that I'd go to bed every night praying that I would not wake up!! At that time, everyone said "just ignore it--they'll stop". The reason for bullying was ridiculous--I refused to wear the latest things to be part of the in crowd. I told them "If you want to talk to my clothes (choose friends based on that), I don't want to be friends with you".
Well, I have 2 notes on that: 1) they don't, & 2) words hurt FAR more than being hit--they stay with you for life!! I also had very few friends. It was when was I a freshman in high school that I had a few grand mal seizures, after which they FINALLY diagnosed/recognized the feelings I'd complained of since I was 5 as petit mal/simple partial seizures.

Before then, we lived in small university towns, & I had many friends in school & in the neighborhood.

The thing that really sucks about epilepsy is work issues. For me, the complex partials began (at least as far as I know) about 1 year after I completed my BS in Econ & Info Sciences. Every time I attempted to work, a complex partial seizure caused me to end my job.
