Does it make sense to have several seizures, but when you get a period for them to stop? I got my first period since having my daughter and haven't had any seizures, but was having them every day up to when my period started. Is this normal or what? It confuses me cuz i have always heard about seizures getting worse during menstruation. I am still on it so not sure if they will return to the same frequency when it is done.

Well, I havnt had any issues with getting seizures around my monthly cycle. I have heard of others who have an increase in seizures during that time, but I dont see it being at all impossible for your seizures to get better, since its a change in the hormones during that time. I guess one thing I would do is ask your dr about it. Im sure they will have more answers than I would have.

All of my TC seizures have been while menstrating. My very first was on the last day and then the next two came the first two nights of my next cycle. Hormones play a big part in things for some people but what role they play is different for everyone, your body still produces hormones while your not menstrating so maybe your epilepsy is sensitive to that. But as momof3boys said your doctor will be able to help you out more, never hurts to ask.

As the previous two said, hormones play a huge role in women with epilepsy. Some women have seizures right before their period, during, or at the time of ovulation. I used to have cluster seizures as part of my PMS years ago. Some women have catamenial seizures, so you will need to discuss this with your dr.

Here is some helpful info:

So my monthly ended yesterday and my seizures returned very badly. Another very painful and bad set of seizures...sigh in a way my monthly helps me I guess..

I have heard a great deal of women's menstrual cycles affecting their seizure activity. I actually asked my neurologist about it, because my activity seems to pick up and cluster the week before I start my period, and he said it's pretty common in women with all the hormonal changes and whatnot.
